Memories The last week of school consists of final exams and schedule planning for those who are taking summer school. In addition, the show choir receives their summer schedule, consisting of practice on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30 and one Saturday every month that’s optional to attend. Cheerleading won’t start until August, a fact for which Amy is most grateful. Unfortunately, Amy will be expected to sacrifice one Wednesday evening, every other week until August for Cheerleading...
On the Saturday following the last week is the annual school field trip to Kings Island while some of the students also plan for a trip to Cedar Point on Sunday. Amy is not amongst those students for the second trip, so instead she takes on a full 8 hour shift at the community center along with Jamie. Her younger brother accompanies her for the day and ends up hanging out with Chris and Alex.
They have another full week off before summer school and show choir starts, Amy taking advantage of the time to work as much as she can during the week, which leaves her weekends free.
Then on Monday, after making sure that Evan has breakfast and assuring him that she’ll be home by the late morning or early afternoon at the latest, Amy sets off for Bowers Academy to begin the summer school session. School begins at 8:30 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. and is dismissed at 12:30 p.m. instead of 2:30 p.m.
“This totally sucks ass,” Alex complained as he got into Amy’s car, “I could be working 8 hours, Monday through Friday, but no… the school board had to be stupid and put me in summer school.”
“I can relate, kinda…” Amy replied, patting his knee, “I would rather be working at the community center during the week but, at least I am getting paid for the summer school thing.”
Alex made a face, “And this is until August, right? So that’s almost two months wasted in summer school.”
Amy nodded, heading straight for Bowers Academy, “considering the alternatives,” the redhead reminded him. “At least you only have the one class, right? You could be stuck there all morning.”
“And I could be stuck with some geek,” Alex said speculatively, “thanks, by the way, for agreeing to take me on.”
“I wouldn’t wish you on anyone else, Alex,” Amy smirked and then rolled her eyes at the mock pouting look she was receiving. “Oh grow up… and we’ll see if you’re still thinking that this is such a good idea in August.”
Alex scoffed, unbuckling his seat belt, “of course it is! I always have good ideas.”
Amy arched an eyebrow, “like the idea you had to climb that one tree which ended up in you breaking your collarbone and your elbow?”
He waved it off, the two heading inside the building so they could check in with the principal for heading to the library to pick up Alex’s assignments for the day. While they were there, they ran into Mickie and Punk, Trish and Jeff, and Eve and Randy.
“All right,” Amy settled at one of the free tables in the cafeteria, “let’s get started.”
As they worked through the first packet of assignments, Amy noted that the cafeteria had been designated for all sophomores to be juniors. Not that she had any particular interest in carrying on idle conversation because both she and Alex knew that the sooner he finished the assignments, the sooner they could leave.
“Okay,” some two hours later, Amy double checked the worksheets with the answer key she had been given. “Some minor corrections here and here,” she made the marks with a pen, “but otherwise great. I’ll go hand this into the Vice Principal, get your homework assignment and the summer reading list for both of us and we’ll go.”
“You aren’t leaving me here,” Alex seemingly protested, “and besides, I need to check with Mr. Storm to see if I can get started on an extra credit assignment for Humanities next year.”
Amy held up a hand to his forehead, “are you feeling okay?”
Alex rolled his eyes, “what are you trying to say?”
Amy smirked, “if you don’t get it, I’m not explaining.” Sealing the envelope she handed it over to the Vice Principal, “yes, that’s for Shelley, Alexander… tutor is Dumas, Amy.” Receiving the homework, she handed that back to Alex. “One stop down and one to go.”
“Would you stop calling me Alexander?”
“That is your name isn’t it?”
“Not the point, Amy Christine.”
The two continued to bicker as they headed to the English department, Amy picking up the summer reading list while Alex spoke with Mr. Storm.
