Previously:
Memories I know not the exact time that we returned to the manor, only making certain that all returned to their quarters safely before seeking refuge in the firing range downstairs. I can sense Hunter in the gym nearby, likely with a sword in hand. But I do not seek to join him, not now, as I believe that his reasons for solitude are near enough to my own.
Minutes bleed into hours as I empty magazine after magazine into target after target.
“Remind me to never piss you off;” I barely hear someone quip, sensing the presence behind me, “… should I come back later?”
I remove the earplugs from my ears, setting my prized twin Berettas on the counter before me. “When do you leave?”
Ivory pulls on her gloves, setting her own pair of Berettas down. “After the full moon…. The ruling house has already arranged for my departure.”
I accept a stack of fresh magazines from the tired house servant, shuffling my feet slightly to avoid the spent magazines littering the floor. “That is not very far away,” I comment first. “I do not know if many will be able to complete the necessary training for an air approach.”
Ivory cants her head, “I taught you in one day, less than really...”
I arch an eyebrow, “you pushed me out of the airplane and told me to figure it out on my own.”
“But you learned,” the brunette replied pointedly, “so my method worked.”
“Yes, I suppose it did…. But that does not mean that others will be so appreciative.”
“Then they are not ready.”
I nod, “I will assemble two attack teams and inform them before sunset.”
Ivory says nothing, slipping on her headphones before raising both of her weapons. Beside her, I mirror her actions after placing the earplugs back in.
In one week, everything as we know it will change.
I summon my sisters by noon, taking them to a secluded area of the manor that can only be accessed by those of our specific bloodline. I will summon Hunter or inform him later of our decision. We sit at a circular table, all of us equal, part of a whole.
“What I reveal to you does not leave this room,” I begin, standing while the others are seated. “Ivory has been summoned home and will return in one week’s time. I will accompany her and I am seeking two volunteers to join me and three to form a second attack team. The attack will begin by air, with one team going in on advance and the other for support and security.”
Eve arches an eyebrow, “parachutes or wingsuits?”
I shrug, “that is up to the individual and how much equipment they choose to carry.”
Jamie is next to speak, “and we go in behind enemy lines?”
I shake my head, “our drop zone will be outside of enemy lines, but the first attack team will be expected to infiltrate their territory.” I hesitate briefly, “we anticipate that the drop zone will be in Romania as the latest intelligence from Budapest has traced the enemy to just outside of Bucharest.”
“Hunter will not accompany us?”
“I am uncertain. Hunter may decide to come when the call is made by the ruling house.” Though, silently I hope that moment does not arrive as that means that all of our forces scattered throughout the world will be necessary for this war. “My primary concern is to assemble teams.”
Melina frowns slightly, “and what of the humans and the shifters?”
I placate a loose strand of hair, “given the nature of the entry into this mission, I felt that gathering those with experience would be more beneficial. If necessary, I will consult with the Alpha and the Police Chief.”
Mickie blinks, “you couldn’t just check their files first?”
I shake my head, “were they of our species I could make my selections by their abilities. But since they are not, I must consult first.”
Trish locks eyes with me, “if you could just assemble your teams, who would you pick?”
I sense the unspoken question, ‘who do I trust?’ … “For the infiltration, I would select Mickie, Melina, Jericho, Adam, Tara and Christy. To accompany me, I would select Eve, Jamie, Orton, Cena and Punk.” Maintaining eye contact with her, I continue, “and for intelligence, I would select you.”
Trish is satisfied with my answer and no further questions are asked. Perhaps what I have said has influenced my sisters; because not long after I have spoken do Mickie, Melina, Eve and Jamie volunteer for the mission.
Now I must speak with Punk and Shawn, request that they ask what I have just asked of my sisters to their respective teams.
And then we wait, brush up on our training, reinforce skills that we already possess and hope that this mission succeeds.
I stand on the terrace following the evening meal, everyone has gone their separate ways tonight; some heading back into the city while others remain on the property. I have not been out here long when I sense that I am not alone.
“… Why would you request me for your team?”
“Because I trust you,” turning I add, “And because I trained you so I know what you are capable of and what your limitations are.”
Cena looks skeptical, “so why the hell did ya pick Orton?”
I shrug, turning my attention back to the quiet grounds, “because I can recognize his potential. He has what it takes for this line of work, John.”
“Never said he didn’t,” John replied, joining me at the railing. “So… Amy, tell me something?” And at my expectant look, he grins. “What the hell is there to do in Budapest?”
