LJ Boldthrough/Strikethrough

Aug 06, 2007 23:54

Why is it every time I go away for a few days, LJ blows up? I come back from my week at the cottage and low and behold I see mutterings on my flist about something called boldthrough. So I go to my fandom news source Fandon Wank and am quickly brought up to speed.

I friended you over at GJ. I've already backed up my LJ posts to both my GJ and InsaneJournal, and from here on out I'm using semagic to post on all three accounts at once. I think I like IJ the best out of the my non-LJ options, but I'll stick around here for the f-list for the time being.

I'm going to check out IJ tonight maybe and then I'l have to explore all of semagics features because that sounds like the easiest thing. I'll be sticking around here for the time being, but I'm curious to see what (if any) LJ's response to all this will be.

I don't understand how The Directorium works, can't even create an account >< A bit of drama won't make me leave LJ. If fandom leaves LJ, theywon, didn't they?

As Jems links below, Fandom411 is so much better and easier to use. I doubt everyone will leave, and I think with the ability to easily post in multiple sites, most people won't notice a different unless people decide to start boycotting LJ completely.

I thought The Directorium was unnecessarily complex too, especially considering that Fandom411 basically does the same job and is a hundred times easier.

My take on the whole thing: I'm not going to storm off in a huff, it's LJ's servers, not a democracy. But I'm not even feeling the least bit safe because they might decide tomorrow to go after something where I'm left in the crossfire. So I'm trying to decentralize and not put all my eggs in one basket as I have done up until now.

Thanks for the link. You're right, Fandom411 is sooo much easier to use. I suspect that people are just going to start posting in multiple places and that the shift actually isn't going to happen quickly, and may even go unnoticed until people get more active in specific things happing on specific sites. But a backup certainly doesn't hurt.
