So I've been doing some scouting on potential apartments. Those of you who live in NYC, can I ask where/how you found your apartments? I'm trying to avoid insane broker fees *coughs*Citihabitats*coughs*, but it's looking not too likely. Craigslist has a few prospects, but I like having options. Also, can anyone recommend safer areas of Brooklyn? I'm completely paranoid, but lack information. I'd rather not preclude the cheaper rent in Brooklyn simply because I lack information.

I'm teetering again on the edge of crazy stress. I think I've developed a new coping mechanism, though, and with little irony I find it amusing: I seem to be approaching this whole process like a game. You know, the fun ones where no one wins or loses really and everyone is just silly. Yeah-huh. I'm approaching finding housing and employment like a game. This could prove problematical, but at least I'll be at my relaxed best at interviews.

I think it's to keep from feeling too trapped or from feeling too much of a sense of permanence. We all know how I've dreaded long-term planning because it's Serious Business, yo. To protect my sanity and stave off anxiety, my mind has decided to flip the switch and turn on my rare Playful Mode. It's just another form of escapism, but if it works... *shrugs*

Tomorrow is for the packing and the last minute food and such. >_< Commence the freakout!
