Discontinued Products

I was at the grocery store earlier, wandering around instead of helping my boyfriend shop because I was hit by a sudden case of the yawns, when I ended up in the toothpaste section and decided to check if maybe, just maybe, this particular supermarket stored my favourite flavour of toothpaste.

Why, you might ask?

Because Marketing departments the whole around are conspiring to discontinue my favourite products, and have been doing so for years!

Before I elaborate, I'd just like to point out that, as a proud owner of a graduate certificate in, yup, Marketing - which I masochistically pursued because I, gasp!, hate Marketing - I'm not a big fan of corporations that try to instill brand loyalty, and am by nature a, for lack of a better term, "brand browser." Actually, I'm not a big fan of most corporations, period, but that's a story best saved for another day!

Anyway, about a year ago, I stumbled upon a flavour of toothpaste that instantly appealed to me: Mint + Green Tea Extract, by Crest. I was enamoured! So tasty, and so fresh! I stopped brand browsing immediately and stuck.

Well, guess what? Today, I can barely locate it in grocery stores and pharmacies.

Which pisses me off, because it really is perfect for me.

So each time I stumble upon it on random trips to the store, I buy 3 tubes to store for later.

My boyfriend thinks I'm slightly weird for this.

Here are a few other examples of products I've loved and lost over the years:

-mint M&Ms (a personal favourite from the days before I gave up chocolate; they bring them out at Christmas now, but since I've been chocolate-free for almost two years, it's just too late!)

-Timotei shampoo (it smelled so good!)

-Reese stix (another pre-I-shun-chocolate snack)

-Miss Vicky's Unsalted plain chips (technically not discontinued yet, but I'm having such a hard time finding them in stores that used to stock them that I'm sure it's only a matter of time - I bought 4 bags on Tuesday, just in case...)

-L'Oréal Pure Zone facial scrub (and I got confirmation from a guy I met at school who works at L'Oréal that it's indeed discontinued. Yeah, I asked. During his oral presentation about the company. In front of the whole class. Got a couple of strange looks that day...)

-Astro key lime yogourt (only a Québec thing, I think; each time I go to the States, I stock up on Yoplait's various key lime offerings)

-Dove pink soap (the only reason I liked it was the colour, but still!)

And the list goes on.

Is this just a me thing?

Anyway, enough rambling about something that is so unimportant that I'm sure I'm going to be embarrassed about this post tomorrow.

Maybe all this typing will give me the motivation I need to finish chapter 9 of Summer Session. I hope so, because I'm really anxious to start chapter 10!
