Some old ones while I work on some new ones:

IN YOUR ABSENCE

It's the negatives
I find myself missing most
toilet seat left up
catching me unaware

AFTERBIRTH

Sometimes I need
the words of others
to inspire
conspire
and force
the thoughts
from me....
Like a void,
I am nothing
until caressed
by syllables and
sounds and
abstract images
made concrete
when written
with a ballpoint pen.
And their words
beget my words
until I find myself
born on a notebook page
blue ink placenta.

NIGHT WALKING

1ST Movement

9:00 p.m.
I'm driving road
worn deep
in my mind.
The broken radio
lulls me
automatic pilot
in the driver's seat
I'm singing show tunes
and Christmas carols
to stay awake

I'm almost home

2nd Movement

Midnight
and road weariness
gives way to
almost
euphoric energy

I can't sleep

as hours
give way to minutes
I am imbued with a
useless energy
a sugar high
that leaves me
everywhere and

no where
looking behind doors
for something
I can't name.

3rd Movement

2 a.m.
I stare at the walls
as my eyes

flutter-blink
wanting to close
my mind is a dervish
and the whirlwind
makes my eyes
start open to sounds
only heard at the center
of a twister.

4th Movement

4 a.m.
over-tired
my body
overrides my mind
I tangle sheets
disturb the cats

and dream of
moments spent
wrapped in your arms

5th Movement

6 a.m.
still clinging
haphazard
to the last
vestiges of dream
shaken awake
by hands on a clock
without conscience

I stumble-step
through days
each moment
a cloying memory
of sleep un-slept
and hours un-spent
in your arms.
