Today I went skimming Left 4 Dead 2 fanfiction and checking out roleplay journals here and there, and just. Holy shit, what do people think we talk like down here? Yes, Ellis is like every southern redneck stereotype you can possibly roll into one character, but seeing people write dialogue for him just makes me wonder. I mean, there's a game script up on GameFAQs and approximately five billion videos up on YouTube devoted solely to his dialogue; you can go there and check out exactly how he talks. And guess what? He's not that bad!
P.S. You can write a southern accent just fine just by focusing on structure and word choice without spelling everything phonetically. :/
A related aside: during Christmas holiday I got one of those sort of "update cards" from my half (?) aunt where you take a family photo and send it off to all your relatives so they can see how much you've grown or whatever, and I swear to you everyone in the picture was wearing camouflaged hunting gear.
Camouflaged hunting gear.
In a Christmas card.
I am related to these people.
bawww,
