I knitted a lot of holiday presents this year. Here's the first batch of photos showing some of the items I made. There are more photos of all these items in my
Flickr set, where you can also see them modeled by their recipients.
I made the rainbow hat quite some time ago. It's a very basic ribbed pattern. The decreasing in the crown isn't exactly beautiful and should have been done more gradually, but it works.

This next hat is the first one where I tried designing something out of the ordinary. The main yarn is a ribbon tape, and there are alternating segments of knit and purl stitches. I knit together with a slightly shiny yarn for the brim, then wove the shiny yarn in between the segments as an accent when finished.

The scarf follows the
Wavy pattern from Knitty. It looks great and complicated, but it's actually pretty simple to do -- it's just ribbing offset the correct number of stitches each row. I think this would be a good pattern for a knitter who has mastered the basics and is looking for something more advanced to try.

I'd purchased the yarn for this hat, but I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. I was getting tired of stripes, but I didn't have time to do something complicated. I thought I'd try doing the hat in stockinette but making thin stripes all in purl stitches. (This certainly isn't an original idea, and I've probably seen pictures of it before.) I'm really pleased with how it came out, and how interesting it makes the hat look. I'm sure I'll be playing with this technique more in the future.
