Jul 20, 2006 17:41

My original rec post became too large for LJ's standards, so I had to split them up. As always, feel free to post recommendations here.

PART 1 (fandoms A thru HA + crossovers)

Note: WIP=Work in progress, * = Just added to the list

Heroes

Petrelli Bros.-Centric
Aegritudo by selenak: Nathan deals, or doesn’t, with his father’s death, flying and his brother. Not necessarily in this order. Complete

After My Death by Wyndhamfan: Post 'Homecoming.' For a long time, Peter Petrelli couldn’t say anything. All he could do was sit uncomfortably at the back of the police car and stare numbly at the back of the two police officers’ heads. He could still feel the blood dripping from his blood-soaked hair and smell the coppery stench of his already-drying blood. The smell was so strong and nauseating that he wondered how the two men could tolerate it. Complete

Apples Can't Talk by sparky77: Nathan’s hand is shaking. It’s 4:30 in the morning and from the roof of his house, it looks like the entire world is blanketed in snow. It would be beautiful if he were the type of person who noticed those sorts of things. Complete

The Beginning and The End by emmademarais: The brothers embrace on the rooftop ("Don't Look Back" Post-Ep). Complete

Escape by lucy_fic: They’d waited for a school break to tell him that he was going to have a little brother. Nathan remembered sitting in his uniform on the edge of the over-stuffed couch that nobody ever sat on unless someone had died, book bag on his lap, listening to his father tell him that by winter break they would be four, finally the perfect family demographic, since no-one had yet figured out how to make point-four of a child. Complete

How Everything Turns Away by Eisoj5: If Nathan were Hiro, he could probably trace each of the possible ways this conversation could end, and say the thing that would least frustrate Peter, and have time enough to save a couple of kittens. But he is Nathan, and it doesn't take any time at all to become tangled up in their familiarity. Complete

Into the Black by Troll Princess: Nathan Petrelli can't fly. Complete

Inverted Loops by crimsonquills: After Simone's visit to his office, Nathan can't stop thinking and temptation wins, just this once. Complete

Like the Berlin Wall by lyra_wing: In which Nathan tries to deal, Peter tries to talk, Heidi is recovering, and people begin to change. Complete

More Than All by ivy03: It wasn't until much later that Peter started to think about the fact of Claire, that she existed at all. And when he did, he realized he should have known about her a long time ago. Complete

Persistent by littlewings04: He’s been sitting there for hours now, hours that feel like days and God, all things considered, he should get back to the campaign, arrange for Peter to be transported away from East Nowhere, Texas and back to the civilized world of blue states and cutting-edge technology. Complete

Responsibility by policepenguin: Nathan's Thoughts while trying to save his brother's life. Complete

The Same Dream by lucy_fic: "You think maybe sometime we can meet somewhere else besides the top of a building, Petey?" A perfect portrayal of the relationship between the Petrelli brothers. Complete

The Terminal Velocity of Spit by sparky77: There's a charity dinner, jealousy, an illegally parked car, flying, and also spit. I can't even begin to describe how much I love this fic. Spot on voices for Nathan and Peter. (Some Peter/George Clooney) Complete

Through Troubled Eyes by comeon_eileen: She's alone now, and they aren't. Complete

Thrust by octavius: The first time Peter wanted to fly, he was in sixth grade. Complete

Mohinder/Peter
Pieces of the Elephant by technosage: Nathan doesn't want to talk about it, but Peter needs to. He thinks the cab driver from the day of the eclipse would understand. Complete

Nathan/Niki
Any Heavy Thing by obsessivemuch: When Nathan offers Niki a job as his personal assistant, she gets a second chance at a new life, but she finds navigating the dysfunctional Petrelli clan a little more than she bargained for. And then there's the little problem of falling in love with her married boss. Complete

Hope of Flight by Counter Spark: What happened before Niki left for New Orleans. Hope, salvation, and afternoon flights in New York. Complete

Peter/Claire
Who, What, When, Where by literarylemming: Peter's powers go horribly wrong. A creative and haunting story that seamlessly jumps around the timeline. Complete

No Pairings/Misc.
14. to preserve something from harm, injury, loss, etc. by revelininsanity: Future!Hiro returns, and speaks with a friend. Complete

A Sorta Fairytale by becs1: Claire doesn't fantasize about her biological parents. She just imagines what they were like, young and superpowered and in love. Complete

Heroes: Runaways by selenak: Kidnapping and running away seems a reasonable reaction if one discovers one’s parents are supervillains, in any universe. Absolutely brilliant. Until proven otherwise, I will consider this canon. Complete

It's Time We Saw a Miracle by ittykat: Only two survive the apocalypse, but they bring their baggage with them. Complete

Let's just keep it in the Petrelli family by zambonigirl: Adorable story about Nathan and Claire spending some quality time together. Complete

Letters from the Desert by saestina: Nathan and Claire deal with Peter’s absence in their own ways. Complete

The Man Who Told Everything by hackthis: It's the laughter that distracts Peter. People don't tend to laugh in Nathan's campaign headquarters. They work, they cajole, they sell souls and eat babies -- but laughing? Not really. A hilarious moment between Peter, Nathan, and Hiro. The author has all of their voices down perfectly. Complete

The Paths Less Travelled by m_jade8: A telepath, a mimic, and a technopath are stuck in an apartment together, while the rest of their band is out saving the world. However will they amuse themselves? Complete

Rebirth by technosage: Matt's running away from the voices in his head. He can't make them stop but he can't run forever. Complete

The Road of Trials by origamifrog23: At a loss for answers after the end of Fallout, Nathan seeks help from an unexpected source. (Slight Peter/Mohinder) Complete

second verse, same as the first by trollprincess: The man who comes back a split second later isn’t Hiro Nakamura. Complete

Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking by trollprincess: It's sunny out. Hiro had almost forgotten what that was like. Complete

Victory by Yahtzee: New York City -- the bomb goes off. And yet, somehow, Claire, Hiro, Nathan and Peter all realize that they've won. Complete

Wish by listenandhear: He's beginning to wish he'd never become involved with this. And as his brother's hospital room grows steadily more crowded he's wondering if there's even going to be a chair left for him when all's said and done. The Heroes being themselves. Slight chaos. Complete

You Can Be Mean and I'll Drink All the Time by hackthis: Nathan's going to have to work on the landing part, the skidding is still too amateurish, but this was a lot better than the time he landed on his ass in the middle of Central Park at 4 o'clock in the morning, freaking out two winos and entirely too many pigeons. A hilarious story about what Nathan and Hiro's car ride back to Vegas might have been like. Complete

Hex

Leon/Ella
Going From Here by Orokiah: Takes place directly after the end of season 2 and explores Ella, Leon, and Thelma's reaction to the End of Days. Brilliant story that captures exactly how I would've wanted season 3 to begin. Complete

House, M.D.

Chase-Centric
Permutations by andrealyn: House observes Chase and his relationships with everyone else in the hospital. Spot on characterizations and brilliant writing. (Warning note: this is pretty much a Chase/everyone fic) Complete

Sleeping Beauty by Naja Melanoleuca: An overworked Chase grows fatally ill, causing House to re-evaluate his character while trying to overcome the betrayal he feels over the entire Vogler incident. Brilliant character study on Chase and I really enjoyed House's little insights in to his personality. So good, in fact, that I didn't even mind the inclusion of an original character. Complete

Chase/Cameron
The Arrangement by vitawash24: A sillier version of Chase/Cameron, post-Hunting The author writes perfect voices for both characters and their relationship seems entirely plausible. Complete

The Creative Utilization of Storage Rooms by imsanehonest: An absolutely adorable story about Chase's feelings after his night together with Cameron. Complete

Last Rites by Dira Sudis: House has some bad news for Chase, and a surprise for Cameron. Complete

The Moments in Between by clarkangel: Set after the season 2 finale, Chase frantically watches over House's condition until he collapses. Cameron watches over him. Complete

Q is for Quarantine by Daygoner: Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital is put under quarantine and it's up to House and his ducklings to find out what is causing this outbreak. There are some great moments between Chase and Cameron and the writing is so good I'm convinced this fic would translate perfectly in to an episode. WIP

House/Chase
Brainwaves by peak_in_darien: Chase wakes up one morning and makes a surprising discovery - he can read all of House's (highly inappropriate) thoughts. What happens when this mental link starts to go both ways? An absolutely hilarious bit of smut. Go read. Complete

Cicatrix by andrealyn: After Chase becomes ill, House learns some interesting things about his youngest duckling. Chase!angst for the masses! Complete

Distorted Mirror by kuhori_rei: Chase puts in his two weeks notice. House is determined to find out why. This story has some excellent characterization; I especially loved how a simple conversation between Chase, Foreman, and Cameron was handled.Complete

Double Ironed by simmyschtuff: He died last Christmas. (Also includes some House/Wilson) Complete

Make a Grown Man Cry by mazily: Takes place shortly after the death of Chase's father. "This is how Chase copes: he doesn't." House tries to help Chase in his own way. A wonderfully written one-shot. Complete

Marathon by andrealyn: "She stole a kiss from Chase. What have you done lately?" "I'm pacing myself." In which House runs a marathon of odd proportions. Complete

Reading Between the Lines by sandrine: It was only supposed to be a one time thing, but the best laid plans... Complete

Revelations by minttown1: There is only one word that will properly summarize this story, and that word is...ZOMBIES! This story takes a silly sounding premise and makes in to an amazing, heart-wrenching end-of-the-world fic, House/Chase style. Highly recommended. Complete

Sense and Sensibility by Goddess Of Heather: While still at med school, Dr. Robert Chase comes down with an illness that renders him permanently deaf. So why does House still decide to hire him for his team? This was the first House fic I ever read and I really enjoyed it. Unique story and I loved how all the interactions between Chase and House were handled. WIP

House/Cuddy
Appendix Be by exhumedpotato: Cuddy collapses while showing around a potential investor. She has appendicitis and House has been assigned as her doctor. Need I say more? This fic is perfectly written and it reads just like an episode of the show. House sat on a chair next to her bed, almost grinning. "You took a little tumble there. Don't worry, you went down with all the grace in the world, very Casablanca-esque. 10 across the board." Complete

House/Wilson
Codependence by RatchetBlack: Wilson wakes up one morning lying next to House and the only thing he can remember is the smell of blood. Really, House mixed with vampires should be a horrible idea but this author manages to pull it off brilliantly. Definitely worth a read. WIP

Diagnosis; Wilson, Patient Write-Up; Chase, Cameron, and Foreman, and Treatment; House by commodoresexual: Wilson gets more than he bargained for when he lets the ducklings diagnosis him. This is the one story that I believe every House fan HAS to read. I don't care if you're not a fan of House/Wilson, you just have to read this. The author has all the characters written to perfection; especially the ducklings, whose shenanigans cause endlessly funny moments. It's just amazing. Go forth and read! Complete

House/Wilson/Chase
Anger at Truth by faelinn: House analyzes Chase's anger during an argument. Excellent characterizations. Complete

No Pairings/Misc.
Hex by darkangel38: House catches an strange illness from one of his patients. To make matters worse, it isn't really an illness that can be cured by even his specialized team. It's a demonic possession. Oh, come on, you know you're curious. WIP

ICU by SkidInSideways: It's been a long summer, and it's not over yet. This is one fan's overheated response to the burning question, And then what happened? Post "No Reason." An absolutely brilliant look at House and his relationships with everyone at PPTH. Highly recommended. Complete

Intelligent Design by amelia_kay: Set during 'House vs God,' the ducklings discuss life and death during a lunch break. Well, two of them do, anyway. Complete

Puzzles by jujubee10323: House comes down with a mysterious illness and it is up to his team to solve the case, before its too late. I'm really a sucker for stories where one of the ducklings or House gets sick and this is one of the best out there. Perfect characterization and dialogue. WIP

Safe From Harm by Maya Tawi: Someone's killing one of House's patients, and solving the medical mystery could put his own life in danger. Complete

Tsunamis by simmyschtuff: I really don't want to summarize this because it would give away the wonderful twist at the end. Just know that it is wonderfully original and it deals with Wilson investigating the Chase's on a hunch. Complete

Veronica Mars

Dick-centric
Requiem for the Uncomplicated by amelia_kay: A look in to Dick's thoughts and feelings about Cassidy after season two. The author manages to take a character who is about as deep as a kiddie pool and make us feel for him. Highly recommended for people who, like me, were disappointed by not seeing Dick's reaction to Cassidy's suicide. Complete

Logan-centric
The World Ends in Fire by boyfriendincoma: No one believes in their own death. Unconsciously, everyone is convinced of their own immortality. An amazing read.Complete

Dick/Mac
Good Eye, Sniper by FallAway: While trying to deal with the aftermath of Cassidy's suicide, Mac decides to drag Dick along on a spontaneous road trip. What will they learn about each other along the way? This story is what got me pondering the possibility of a Dick/Mac romance on the show. I haven't looked back since. Highly recommended. Complete

Trickle In by samirant: This story deals with Dick during and after the events of season two. Technically this is not a Dick/Mac romance, but if you squint really hard, it could be. Complete

Dick/Veronica
The Steps by klawick003: Dick develops feelings for Veronica and is determined to prove himself to her. The fact that this author has written these character flawlessly and made this pairing seem completely plausible is reason enough to check it out. WIP

Logan/Veronica
Basket Case by utsusemia: A look at what could have happened to Veronica if Keith had been on the plane when Cassidy blew it up. Absolutely heartbreaking. Complete

For Thy Sweet Love Remembered by Catheryne: Oooh, man, where to begin on this one? Heart wrenching story about Veronica's life after an accident leaves her without any memories. She leads an average, quiet life with her husband Duncan Kane until Logan Echolls, enters, or rather, re-enters her life. It's absolutely amazing, I highly recommend it. Complete

Unforgotten by etrnlscribbler: Ten years after the death of Lilly Kane, Veronica meets up with Logan, who is now a best-selling author. Wonderful writing and I just loved how all the characters were handled. Complete

Veronica Mars Season 2 by theohara: This was absolutely the perfect thing to read over the summer hiatus. Although, since we're now well in to season 2, this story is a bit pointless. However, the author had some brilliantly original ideas and believable scripts that made this worth while. WIP

Well I Have Snost And Lost by sexycereal: Takes place directly after the end of 'Look Who's Stalking.' Logan and Veronica talk about what happened the night of the alternate prom. How 99.9% of Logan/Veronica shippers wish the episode had ended. Complete

Meg/Logan/Veronica
Equilateral by queen_haq: If you told me a year ago that I'd be enjoying a Logan/Meg fic, I probably would have scoffed. That's right, scoffed. Now, over 10 chapters in to this story and I gotta say that it is one of the best and most unique stories this fandom has to offer. The Veronica part of this pairing hasn't really come in to play yet, but I think readers will be satisfied enough with the confusing relationship between Logan and Meg. A must. WIP

Logan/Veronica/Duncan/Lilly
12 Rolls of Film by sinaddict: Absolutely beautiful story. Comparing the relationships of the fab four to certain types of film was a brilliant idea and it works so perfectly. This story is a bit dark and incestuous, but it's easy to overlook because of the remarkable way the author explains these characters. Complete

No Pairings/Misc.
In Case of Emergency by bigboobedcanuck: After Logan gets in to a car accident, it's up to Keith Mars to look after the recovering patient. I'm a sucker for Keith and Logan bonding stories, and this one is absolutely perfect. Complete

Taste How It Used To Be by sadiekate: Veronica, Logan, Duncan, Keith, and Dick try to survive together after the end of the world. A beautifully tragic story written for the apocalyptothon. Complete

Crack!Fic/Humor
All Dots and Lines by sexycereal (Logan/Veronica): To put it simply, I love this fic to itty bitty super powered pieces. Yes, Logan and Veronica discover one day that they have mysteriously developed super powers. Logan has the power to create fire and Veronica can create ice. The dialogue in this is genius as well as hilarious. My favorite line - "Nobody wins when we fight," she smiled knowingly. "We just blow off a lot of steam." LOVE! Complete

The Liberation of Katie Holmes by buffyx: (Jason/Kristen, RPF) It should be noted that I usually avoid RPF (real person fic) like the plague. I find it creepy and invasive, but hey, whatever floats your boat, right? However, even I couldn't turn away from this story, no matter how hard I tried. Thankfully, it is hilarious and brilliant and just 100% pure awesome! Kristen Bell inadvertently joins Josh Jackson (of Dawson's Creek) and her Veronica Mars co-star, Jason (FUCKING) Dohring, on a rescue mission to save Katie Holmes from the crazy Scientologists - one crazy Scientologist in particular. Purple. Monkey. Dishwasher. It's the liberation, read it! Complete

Mars Attacks! by dasq_kaze: Earth is being invaded by aliens who, among other things, want to witness Veronica and Logan "fornicate." Good thing Dick and Logan have some mad Xbox skills. It's time to save the world. Hilarious and depressing at the same time. Complete

X-men: Evolution

Brotherhood-Centric
Turning Point by Sailor X1: In a moment of pure desperation, Todd, Lance, and Pietro go to the X-men for help. Can the two groups learn to live together? Complete

Pietro-Centric
Melting Point by The Phantom: Pietro's powers begin to randomly go out of control until one day he becomes trapped in hyper speed. The Brotherhood and X-men reluctantly team up to save him and in the meantime everyone reflects on Pietro as a friend, an enemy, and a brother. I think this might be the best written story to come out of this fandom. Wonderful, deep characterizations with more than a little angst thrown in. A must. Complete

Shattered Silver by Chiru: Set before and during the events of Day of Reckoning, this story tries to explain why Pietro betrayed the Brotherhood and sided with Magneto. Pietro angst at its finest. WIP/Abandoned

Pietro/Lance
Getting By by astra-argentea: Pietro takes Lance out to a dance club when the older mutant begins to worry about the Brotherhood's financial situation. It never ceases to amaze me what sort of deep, wonderful stories can come out of this animated series aimed towards children. Complete

Pietro/Rogue
Behind Dark Eyeliner by Sailor X1: Rogue tells (or rather, shows) Pietro, of all people, why exactly she wears such heavy makeup. I absolutely loved the explanation behind Rogue's look. And while this is far from a fluffy Pietro/Rogue story it has more than enough moments between the two of them to satisfy any shipper. Complete

Couples Therapy (Sequel to 'Tag!') by MBLite: Pietro has a plan, he just hopes that after everything is said and done, Rogue can forgive him. Set after 'Tag' and the story runs along with the events of Day of Reckoning. WIP

Run With Me by The Musachan: Pietro and Rogue have a conversation about their powers shortly after he moves in to the Brotherhood house. Short, simple, and sweet. Check it out. Complete

Shakespeare and Valentines by MizzMarvel: Valentine's Day has hit Bayville and in true Hamlet fashion, Rogue's most tragic flaw is indecision. To send or not to send? That is the question. This story switches back and forth between Rogue and Pietro's point of view, something I usually find jarring but in this case it works perfectly. Complete

Sixteen Years, Sixteen Tears by Ezmee: With Rogue's sixteenth birthday comes a shocking discovery about her powers and confusing emotions towards Scott and Pietro. I love this fic to pieces, although it should be noted that it gets pretty anti-Xavier further in to the story. Complete
