Poem, and Fate of the Open Mic

Again with the events...

Isis was good, very good, I liked being part of the energy of the grand opening of their new space. Collin drummed, I got to see friends and we ate fantastic Middle Eastern food. Doesn't get much better than that.

Next I drove aaaaalllll the way up to Loveland for the Green Fuse Press fundraiser. More people need to know about them, they are really trying to be of the people, for the people and by the people -- of Colorado. That is exactly what I have been looking for. I don'twant to be a faceless name on the printed page, one of 25 poets printed in the famous literary magazines. I want to make connections, get to know other writers, support them and be supported. So, my writer friends, where have you been hiding out? Come out come out wherever you are...to www.greenfusepress.com.

Then I hosted another Open Mic at Witches Brew. Now this is the event that I don't know what to do with. We have had enough get togethers that we now have regulars who want to be at the mic and are looking forward to being there. But of course now I have a bunch of conflicts over the summer. July and August are out. I also have had trouble getting musicians to be featured performers, because frankly I don't know any! Ack. So I have put out the word for a co-host. Hopefully one will show up and take up the reins for the Sept. date. If not, the next Open Mic will be in October. By then, will everyone have forgotten about it?? Or will it be ripe to begin anew, with everyone back from summer adventures and staying closer to home. I look forward to finding out which one it will be!

And now here's a poem recently published in my alum journal at Notre Dame...written in the style of an Emily Dickinson poem, one of my early influences...

A Destined Shore

"Wild Nights! Wild Nights!" -- Emily Dickinson

Nothing -- No one -- preordained
Cold daylight calmly states
The Lunar Seas are dead -- Are Dust --
No Breath -- No Touch -- No Taste

But once asleep -- the ocean Wakes --
Pounding Blood beat -- Heart fed Waves
And Swim -- I must in this Wild Unknown
And Reach -- My Promised Fate

Destiny is out of season
Still -- I seek a Destined Shore --
Fiercely led -- by Seas of Fire --
Nights that Breathe -- Your Name -- And More --
