LUMOS SORTING APPLICATION

Name: Chloe

Age (13 or up; we stick to LJ rules): I'm fifteen, but I feel much older.

Location: I live in Colorado, USA. But, you could also say I live in a fantasy world, or on my computer.

Where did you hear about this community? (Please tell us which
lj user recommended you for he/she shall be given a point.) Frodolives33 pointed me in this direction, and I decided to give it a chance.

How much time are you willing to invest in this community? I'm willing to spend quite a bit of time. I have no set schedule in my life (especially as it is summer break), and spend as much time on the computer as I can. I would rather spend it here interacting with "real" people, especially if we have the same interests (Harry Potter).

PART 1 - Canon

1. Have you read all the books? Yes, I have. I started reading them in 1999 during my fourth grade, and fell in love with the magical world immediately. I received the sixth book at midnight on the 16th, and read it in a matter of eight hours. I'm not quite sure if I soaked in as much as I should've, but I was so eager to see what happened that I couldn't put it down!

2. Give us your personal interpretation of each Hogwarts house (in
terms of atmosphere, mentality, intra-house relationships et cetera -
these are just a few examples).
Gryffindor: I think Gryffindors are similar to Slytherins in a sense; I think they have their pride as well. Gryffindors are called "brave", but I just think they want to fight for what's right. For example, Neville Longbottom; he doesn't seem the type "brave" enough to break the school rules by going out at night, but he stands up for what he believes to be right.

Ravenclaw: I think the Ravenclaw house is, of course, intelligent. But I also think they probably have quite a bit of competition inside their house. I'll use Hermione as an example because I feel she is a perfect example of a Ravenclaw. Hermione gets quite dissapointed when one of her owls was not an 'Outstanding', and she also seemed to get annoyed with Harry making a good Draught of Living Death (and this was before she knew he was getting help from the HBP). I assume that many of the Ravenclaws would want to be 'the best' like Hermione, and that might get in the way of friendships perhaps. I guess the Ravenclaws could be a bit prideful. Not that having some pride in the work you do is bad.

Hufflepuff: I feel a bit sorry for Hufflepuff. They are not a bad house, and have many great qualities; especially about friendship and loyalty, which I think is wonderful. But Hufflepuff seems like the 'outside house', or even a joke. I think Hufflepuff are great though, they seem to have good morals; like they would rather lose a fair fight than win a dirty one.

Slytherin: I do not think Slytherin are nessecarily a bad house. They have a great deal of pride, and purposefully set themselves apart from the rest of the houses. They want to look out for themselves first and foremost, and seem very cunning and clever. Those are not nessecarily bad qualities, Slyherins are more of the "Future Business Leaders of the World".

3. What would be your favourite flavour of Bertie Bott’s Every
Flavour Beans and why (note: as the name implies, all possible flavours
exist)?
I think my favorite flavor of an every flavor bean would be Hot Cocoa. I think a bean could hold the luscious silkyness and smoothness of the chocolate quite well. And having a streak of creamy marshmallow would fit well in there too. I would also love it because Hot Cocoa is a comfort food; it makes you feel all warm and tingly inside, reminding you of winter days in the snow, and flakes on your lashes. Not too mention Hot Cocoa would be a better comfort food flavor than Chicken Noodle Soup...can't quite imagine that in a bean now, could you?
I'd only like the bean if it could get hot in your mouth, though, like real hot cocoa. I think we all have had lukewarm to cold hot cocoa once in our lives, and it's not that comforting. But, this being the magical world, I'm sure a bean with warmth can be arranged.

4. If you were on your House’s Quidditch Team, which position would
you preferably play and why?
At first, I thought I wanted to be Seeker for the "majesticness" and the "glory". But on second thought I'd like to be a beater. Being a beater I could get my aggresion out on the ball as well as "save" my fellow team mates. Being a beater I can help out everyone on the team while distracting the other team from having their "game". It's just the position I'd want.

5. (Optional) What HP conspiracy theory do you hold true unless it
is textually proven otherwise? (i.e. Snape is a vampire, Ron is
Dumbledore, etc. -there are loads of these theories. Feel free to contribute
your own)?
I haven't yet found a theory that I argee with. Though R.A.B. being Regulus Black seems to be gaining popularity, Of course, that doesn't exactly seem to be a "conspiracy theory", it just seems like a conclusion.

6. (Optional. If you can't answer #5, make sure you answer this
one.) What is your favorite book aside from HP and why?
My absolute favorite book in the world is The Lord of the Rings. It's always been, in a sense, the classic "good versus bad" story. I'm moved how Frodo and other's in Middle Earth are willing to risk their lives for they know in their hearts is right, it brings me to tears. It also retains that "nobility of war" in a sense. Not that I think killing anyone is great, but the hand to hand combat/risking your life to help a fellow soldier/thing is romantic to me. I've always seen modern war as cowardice to me. People don't go into war because they're fighting for something good, anymore, and they use this machinery that allows them to kill from a distance, it's cowardice. So, the fact that JRR Tolkien thought the exact same as I about modern war, and let The Lord of the Rings retain the nobility and romanticism is great.
Not to mention I love the fact that an entire world was created, including languages for this world, and everything was rather detailed. I just find this book the greatest ever written.
The Harry Potter series comes in second, of course.

7. What would your Room of Requirement look like?Apart from looking exactly like Hagrid's hut...my Room of Requirement (henceforth "my room" of "RoR") would be very "user-friendly". It wouldn't be so large that it looks devoid of anything, but it wouldn't be small and cramped. My RoR would have a small library full of every kind of book imaginable. The room would also have a "practical" area, this would be an area where I can move about to practice things- meditation and yoga, swordfighting, and anything else that could use an open area like that. My room would also be comfy, providing armchairs and pillows and cats to cuddle up with.

8. Describe your wand and tell us why you picked that design.

My wand would be made of oak, because I love how strong oak trees are. I would want it 11 inches because then it can also be "whippy" and somewhat flexible, and oak trees aren't whippy and flexible, so the wand is providing me with some qualties oak doesn't have. The center of my wand would be a strand of my own hair. I would want that to remind me that I may be a human who makes mistakes, but I am also a human who can bring great things as well as great magic into this world.

What's Your Personality Type?

10. Who do you admire most and why?

I do not have one person whom I admire most. I admire different qualaties within everyone. I would not wish to strive to be like a certain person, for then who would I be? Certainly not myself. I like to take different parts from different people to create the ideal person for me to be, no more, no less.

11. What would you like to have accomplished at the end of your
life?
I would like several things accomplished by the time death takes me. And they are all intertwined. I would love to travel the world before I die, but while traveling the world I want to have experienced many adventures, both good and bad. During these adventures I want to make incredible, trusting relationships, because I do not see the point in having my fun adventures if I don't have people to fall back onto.

12. Would you sooner commit a crime against your kin or your
countrymen?
I would sooner commit a crime against my countrymen. My kin are too close to me, too dear to lose. It's easier to commit a crime against my countrymen because I do not know them personally, do not feel their hate personally, and I know I can't possibly keep from wrongdoing against them, we do not all share the same values and beliefs.

13. What would your animagus be and why?
My animagus would be a large cat, like a panther. My reason is not just that I like cats. Cats are amazing creatures who can be both harsh and cunning. But they can also be friendly, compassionate beings.

14. What would your patronus be and why?
I have not yet given thought to what my patronus would be because patronuses represent who casts them. I think many animals could represent me, because I have many diferent parts of my personality that could be represented. Ultimately I would want my patronus to be a horse. Horses are creatures who are loyal, intelligent, and respresent freedom (at least to me). Freedom is what I ultimately want, although what I want freedom from can change quite a bit, and so I think the horses would best represent me for that reason.

15. What career would you consider if you were indeed part of the
wizarding world and why?
I've always said that I've never wanted a boring desk job. If I don't want one in "real" life, why would I want one in the magical world? My dream wizarding job is an Auror. An Auror would give me a chance to have excitment in my life, and probably some traveling. Also, as an Auror I would be "protecting the innocent" in a sense by fighting for what's right.
