Aye. There's some sort of spell on the Mayor's house that drops ye into the lake if ye try to get there.

[He doesn't know about the redirection part of things taking place first. And yes, Sophie thought it was science rather than a spell, but it's easier for him to believe it's the latter.]

Apparently that was the way out before and they don't want ye to go through there again.

Maybe so, but just because they've closed that way off doesn't mean there's not another. It's just a matter of finding it.
