I can't offer you a stay or go answer. If I gave you an answer, it could only be one thing: uninformed. Though I know of your situation, I know little about your job. I know nothing of how much you are paid, how much you could stand to make, what your living expenses will be in Arizona or even what Eric's financial situation has been since he moved there to work for this company. All I feel I can do is help put things into perspective.

First off, let's start with money. After all, that's why this is even an issue in the first place. San Diego is a horrible place to live for the working class. Most jobs don't pay enough for one to live on without outside assistance. Affordable housing is impossibly difficult to find here. A dense population, a year-round tourist season, oh, and don't forget about the energy crisis the state is experiencing. What this all adds up to is higher prices on most anything you'll ever buy here. It'll be a long time until you'll be able to live on your own, but this also brings up the question: how important is that to you?

That said, it makes offers like this all the more appealing. Another area with (hopefully) lower living costs and the promise of a better income. But one has to wonder just how much substance there is in a promise such as this.

That brings us to the question regarding the unknown. What is the music scene like in Tempe, Arizona? How much are they really going to pay you after X amount of time? How much does it cost to live there? Without a working contract, they don't ever have to pay you that much and they can forever make promises about promotions and pay raises (but then contracts have their own problems). If you don't know what Eric's financial situation is, try to find out.

Finally, let's factor in friendships. Few things strain them like long distances. They will fade and you will slip out of contact with lots of people. But time heals wounds and you can and will always make new friends. You can always keep in contact with those whose friendships mean the most to you, but without the occasional visit, you'll lose contact with those people as well. It's really all just a question of time.

Maybe I could give you some better advice if we had a working dialog about this.
