FAIL/LATE POST IS FAIL/LATE!! (Also, Comic Con)

Aug 02, 2009 00:16

Ok, so, the night before I left for Comic Con, I tried to post to lj. Unfortunately, lj was being stupid and wouldn't let me post. So, here's my very belated Comic Con post! Huzzah!!

ORIGINAL POST FROM WEDNESDAY
omgomgomg...I'm going to Comic Con tomorrow! How did I celebrate besides packing and getting my Toph cosplay in order (which is now entirely complete and 100% awesome)? Why, I baked of course!

It's a Comic Con cupcake!! Yeah. I'm a nerd and a foodie. :)

And what's this? Yes, it is a Starfleet cupcake. I was going to make a Cupcake!cupcake, but I was too lazy to dye a batch of icing red. Maybe next time.

Thursday!
omendreamer and I left my house at about 8:30 and headed down the 405 to Nerdvana to the sound of some Voltaire CDs and our constant babbling about Star Trek, Kirk/Spock, and the panels we wanted to get to. Robot Chicken was high on the list.

We get to the actual convention around 12 and hit the floor (nerds gettin' low, low, low, low, low...). How can you describe the fabulous chaos that is the floor of Comic Con? It's a total sensory overload.

Long story short, we didn't get into the Robot Chicken panel. The line was...insane and well, closed. We were some of the last people to get into the Batman's Rogues Gallery panel which was totally cool. A panel of psychiatrists talked about whether or not these villans belonged in Arkham or not and why. Fascinating AND informative!

We left the con after the panel and went on an epic quest for dinner. We walked around the Gaslamp Quarter for a while and didn't find suitable food until we took the trolley back to the car and then found a Domino's. Pizza and the Riff Trax for "Night of the Living Dead" is 10000 types of win.

Awesome Sights from Thursday:

The first Avatar Cosplayer of the day!

Susan cosplayer was made of WIN!

How can you not give this guy a hug?

zomg, it's Aang! squee!!!

Friday!!
I got up at about 6:30 to start putting on my Toph cosplay outfit. Most of the time was spent trying to get my hair braided and gelled just so so that it would stay under the wig cap and wig. Bobby-pinning the hell out of my poor hair also helped.

All I can say is that my cosplay was EPIC.

Aang and I (suddenlytaller!Toph) prepare to kick ass. BAMFs, yo.

omendreamer and I. You know in some alternate reality Toph is kicking even more ass in Starfeet (metalbending? SHE CAN DO ZAT!). Crossovers ftw!

We didn't go to any of Friday's panels, but we did watch some of the animated films which were mostly pretty cool. The first one about the city was kind of WTF though.

After leaving the convention, we made it back to the hotel asap so that I could change out of my costume in time for the Slashers Dinner! The dinner was super cool and everybody there was awesome. The sheer amount of Trek slashers was astounding, but not entirely unexpected. :)

Next year, I am totally going for all four days.

So long Comic Con!!!! See you in 2010!

Since Comic Con, I've spent my days watching episodes of Star Trek online, cleaning bones at the lab, studying for the GRE, and freaking out.
Seriously. I was so anxious last night about next semester, the GRE, my thesis, trying to keep my Greek up, and not practicing my harp that I couldn't sleep. I gave up the ghost at like 2:30 in the morning (after trying to get to sleep at 1:30) and watched Star Trek until 4 something. Yeah. Is this a sign of my increasing nerdiness that it actually made me feel better?

Also, I baked carrot cake this morning with carrots from the garden. Sadly, the carrots were kind of crappy, but the cake is uber tasty!

straight up awesome, comic con, cosplay, epic, nerdy, avatar, wtf, baking, star trek, toph
