My ipod lives!!
My poor 4th gen ipod had been making the "whirrr-CLUNK" of death, the signal of hard drive failure. Poor thing. I took it to the Apple store and they told me that I'd have to buy a new ipod. "Hey, at least it will be in color," they said. I was not convinced. I do not require my ipod to have color display, I only need it to play my music damnit! And I sure as hell wasn't keen on shelling out $200 or so for a new ipod. Sadly, I took my ipod home.
Then the lightbulb turned on. I'd already changed the battery in my ipod by myself a couple of years ago, could I replace the hard drive? I googled it and
http://joshhighland.com/blog/2005/12/24/replacing-the-hardrive-of-an-ipod/ said it could be done and had a great post filled with hard drive replacing goodness! I then found a 30 GB hard drive on ebay for $30 and today I replaced the broken hard drive and replaced it with the shiny new one! Now my old, broken 20 gig is a spiffy new 30 gig for a fraction of the cost of a new ipod. Screw you, Apple! I'm awesome!!!
