How to speak like a 4 year old:

Nov 02, 2005 18:14

I'm Hungry / I'm thirsty / Is it lunch time yet? ---- I regret to inform you that the activity we are doing is boring and I want to do something else.

Tie my shoe! / Open my lunch. / Hang up my coat. --- Would you please (tie my shoe) for me, as I am unable.

Would you please tie my shoe for me --- I'll do anything you ask if you would just please tie my shoe already.

This is my world twice a week, sometimes three times a week. The strange thing is I like it...ok it's really not all that strange. I've always been a sucker for cute things and there are few things cuter than 4 year old in a dragon costume that is too big.

I have now lived in Indianapolis for 5 months and I'm still glad I came... in fact I'm enjoy it now more than ever. I am in charge of "Children and Youth Programs" at the George Goodwin Center and also a resident assistant for the "Fostering Independance" program. This means from 10am - 6pm I work with kids between the ages of 3 and 11, and then come home to a house where I over see 18 - 25 year olds who sometimes behave like children between the ages of 3 - 11.

I like both jobs. They keep me quite busy, but busy has always been better for me. When I'm not working I volunteer at the Zoo. During the summer I am a "Naturalist" which means I am there to answer questions about a section of the zoo I'm assigned to (and I get a couple free classes on Zoos and Animals so that I can actually answer those questions!). During the winter I am one of the many volunteers that changes thier personality to become Kiburi the Lion, the Zoo's playful mascott. (There are actually 6 different mascotts, but Kiburi is my favorite).

I also go to Temple every Saturday and to a small degree "keep the Sabbith." This past year I slowly came to the descion to get back in touch with my Jewish roots.

When I came here I agreed (to myself) that I would be here atleast 2 years, on weeks like the past few where things go well and I feel I have a handle on things I can easily see that two years becoming 30 years. I have a five year plan to have either a BA or Masters degree (if I decided to be ambitious and just skip the undergrad) and also to complete a B'nai Mitzvot program (the equivolent of a Bar Mitzvot for an adult).

My social life right now consists mostly of time with my residents and listening to NPR. One of my sister's friends from High School is actually in Medical School here, so I see him on ocasion. And I have some friends from last year that I also see oncasion. I'm actually looking through personal ads too, but so far that has been unfruitful (I do it in spirts, about two weeks back in July. And then again this week).

That's actually kind of about it. I keep in contact with a lot of various people from various other parts of my life, but it seems silly to type thier information here :).

For the most part I am enjoying things right now. Weeks like this I feel relatively in control of things and I enjoy work. Sometimes, ofcourse, it is scary and it feels like there is more than can be dealt with. But I am very happy with the choice I made to come here.

:)

I almost forgot to mention I have a new found enjoyment of the Dixie Chicks. I think they are the contemporary equivelent of Fleetwood Mac. Pop Music, that takes most of the characteristics of pop music of it's time, but still has origonality to it.
