So when did the GOP jump the shark?
Was reading Howard Schreiber's The Republican Party has Jumped The Shark which is about that particular moment in time when the GOP really lost it. I think (a) this (meaning when) is a valid question, (b) the post amusing and relevant, but (c) I don't actually agree with the author on his conclusion. (He goes with when Joe the Plumber answered questions on foreign policy at a rally.)
I'm thinking maybe it's when they called Obama a socialist. I mean, really. There's so much... just plain weird about that. Even if we ignore the fact that the Socialists don't consider O in their camp. But also, with the ridiculous backdrop of (1) the Bailout less than a month in the background, and (2) Alaska's oil money parcelled out to Alaskans, the desperate scrambling to say Something, Anything no matter how absurd really overtook the campaign last week.
So that's my theory. Anyone else have an opinion?
