Grateful? I'd prefer a Republican that wasn't going to siphon off so many clueless Independents who can't resist a roguish straight-talkin' guy.

~sigh~ I guess we'll have to disagree on this one.

In terms of actual worrying, Huckabee was more worrisome to me. Just was. I'm not saying McCain's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I'm far less worried about what he'd do with power than Huckabee (much like our current, it looks) or Romney (who knows? highest bidder?). I mean the Republicans are going to choose somebody. McCain seems to me _much_ the lesser evil than Huckabee. That's all I meant.

You're right in a general sense. McCain is far less evil than Huckabee.

However Huckabee had zero chance of winning in the general election. The 28% hardcore would be with him, and there would have been plenty of "no, I can't vote for a Democrat" votes, but he'd have been totally routed.

McCain actually has a chance of winning, and that means war with Iran, more tax cuts, and a Supreme Court that will destroy life as we know it. For starters....

If you think Huckabee didn't have a chance of winning, you have a short memory. I would have thought Bush had a 28% chance of winning in 2004, too ( ... )
