I hear you on the .... McCain-Might-Actually-Win-Ack problem, but frankly, I have to assume _anyone_ who got this far in the primaries Huckabee Included... Might Actually Win. I don't understand how Bush got elected the First Time. I have to assume I don't understand what motivates conservative voters. I thought McCain's political prospects tanked with the surge. Shows what I know.
I can't get too worked up about the this person is taking votes from that person problem. It's not fixable in a one-vote-2-party-system. There will always be people grabbing votes from other people. That's how it works. I would _love_ for there to be a Democrat in the White House, but the thought of someone like Huckabee chills me to the core in a way that McCain does not, and quite frankly, I can't just assume conservatives are going to be as unimpressed as I am, since They Voted For Our Fearless Leader. Twice. It's lovely to think Huckabee would have been routed. Thoughts like those warm the cockles of my politically barren soul, but you don't Know that... it's not True with a capital T, ya know?
Is McCain a warhawk? Yes. All of the serious Republican candidates are going to be warhawks. Is McCain going to be into tax cuts? Yes. All of the serious Republican candidates are going to be into tax cuts. Supreme Court? same problem. Republicans will nominate Republicans. I just don't see how McCain is any more likely to do any of those things than the other Republican candidates.
