never seen one :-)

Just found it to be an interesting post. For me it raises a lot of questions, one of which is "How can anything protect against a full nuclear war?" Maybe this was for a "limited conflict".

How long were people expected to live there?
Were those medical kits the only medicines available? One would think there would be a whole infirmary/hospital/surgery with a full pharmacy.

This particular one apparently dates from the 1980's. There must be others all over the former USSR. Someone should find one in still usable condition and convert it into a tourist hostel or even a BB&D, LOL (But, it would make a good BB&D! :-D)

Anyway, not much on the decoration, is it?

I think these shelters were more for 'psychological' protection than real protection. A full scale nuclear exchange between the US and the USSR would have required the survivors to stay underground for months, if not years. There are huge complexes for the leadership that, at least here in the states, are still operational. One can stay inside those for a year or two.
