Want to see what a Russian nuclear bomb and fallout shelter from the Cold War era looks like today?
Go on this photo tour:
Gallery 1, Entering the shelter Gallery 2, Deep within You will see the underground diesel-electric generator, a control panel for the generator, a work room with desks stacked on each other, the sleeping room (that looks like a coat closet with benches) the kitchen, toilets.... Phone lines connecting to the outside. The orange boxes contain medicines for phosphorous or radiation poisoning, pain killers (perhaps morphine), antibiotics (possibly tetracycline). There must have been a pipe leak somewhere, or either the ground water has seeped up into the chambers, or rain/snow from above has seeped in but the pumps are (obviously) not active. The room with the boxes contained gas masks, fallout & chemical suits, first aid etc.
The shelter is apparently from the early 1980's and could house 200 persons. It could have been used in other situations besides a nuclear attack (chemical, bio, etc.).
EDIT:
Here is a more recent post of another large underground complex below Moscow. EDIT:
Another group of photos of the labyrinth beneath Moscow. EDIT:
And another "Refuge".
