Dear lJ.
Well, this should be a fairly quick scribble, because it's been a lovely, quiet, uneventful day.
I had to go to bed early last night, so I woke up at ridiculously early O'clock, just after four if you want chapter and verse. I stayed awake, nerdling here, tweeting there, and before I knew where I was it was morning proper, first mr B, then Lixi was here. We went through the usual morning routine, then Mr B and Lixi went to get our mince pie order. I was afraid the bakery might be shut, but no, back they came, fresh and smelling delicious.
then we made Lacey's last video for Advent, and I almost had a tear in my eye as we finished. I am going to miss the daily visit with our little princess so very much! We haven't missed a single day this year, and it's been an absolute joy from start to finish. I'll certainly do the Elf On The Shelf calendar again, it was beautifully easy to open, as wel as a lot of fun, and worth its rather elivated price tag.
Before she left, Lixi gave me a hand with assembling the cheese and pineapple cocktail snacks that Mr B loves so much, and then off she toddled, and there was nothing to do but relax, get our best cloth on the table and set a few bowls of things up for later. At about two, or just after, back Lixi came with all our Christmas Eve buffet food. We'd bought it of course, but she and Mumma cooked it for us, which really helped us, as we don't have a working oven, and saved my silly aching bones a heap of trouble. In the twinkling of an eye the table was all beautifully arranged.
We had little strips of chicken in crispy crumb with my home made creamy curry dip, two kinds of mini sausage roll, a proper meat one and one filled with a cheese mixture for me, miniature crispy potato cakes made savoury with onion and herbs, crispy little potato nests filled with white fish and topped with a juicy shrimp, little pork riblets in a sticky barbecue sauce, tiny cocktail sausages, mr B's cheese and pineapple snacks, ripe cherry tomatoes as red as lipstick, big dill cucumbers which I can't bear but mr B loves, salted peanuts, tiny littel bite sized mince pies, pies filled with a spicy fruit mixture, not beef, in case anyone from overseas is reading this, and some amazing little crisp, sugar coated pancakes, rolled and stuffed with a melted chocolate and hazelnut mixture.
you may think that's enough food to feed an army, and indeed the plates and bowls cover the table, but we like to have enough food to nibble for a good bit of the holiday. Of course we'll put leftovers in the fridge tonight, and eat whatever needs eating quickly first, but I think we'll be able to make this loveley buffet last us till boxing day, and possibly a little after.
In just under an hour, Mr B's going on air to do a two hour radio show, then we'll snuggle up, have a drink and some more food, and get ready to see in the big day. I'm so excited, we've planned for this for so long, and I pray to God it all goes well. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'll write to you again tomorrow, or whenever I can. Until next time, Merry Christmas! Let's have a fabulicious one!
