*~*~*~*~*~*
Leeteuk was sitting in the park watching his neighbor’s kids play. He had volunteered to babysit them and he decided to take them to the park, but they had long since tired him out. After assuring them he would be back after he rested his (not-old) bones, they allowed him to sit on the bench and watch them.
He was watching as Donghae pushed Kyuhyun on the swings.
“Look Teukie hyung! I’m flying!” Kyuhyun called with a large grin on his face.
His brother had an equally big smile on his face as he listened to the younger laughing. Leeteuk smiled fondly at the two and waved at them.
“I can jump off too! Watch!” Kyuhyun yelled, preparing to leap.
Leeteuk saw a man walking and was about to call out to Kyuhyun to stop, but was too late. Kyuhyun launched himself off of the swing and landed right on top of the man. Leeteuk got up and frantically ran to them.
“Oh my god! Are you alright?” fe asked looking at them both, worry in his voice. Kyuhyun smiled from his spot on top of the man’s chest.
“I’m fine hyung.”
“Are you okay?” Leeteuk asked the man again. His eyes were closed and Leeteuk started to panic. He leaned down and placed the man’s head on his lap.
“Donghae, can you take Kyuhyun and wet this for me?” he said, handing the boy a handkerchief from his pocket. Donghae quickly grabbed it and Kyuhyun’s hand and ran to the water fountain. Leeteuk started to tap the man, trying to wake him up. When he got no response he started to imagine the worst.
‘Oh god, he's dead. I let Kyuhyun kill somebody. I’m gonna go to jail and never be able to see them again. Who’s going to make Kyuhyun put his games down, or stop Donghae from inhaling too much candy? Kyuhyun will become a shut-in and never leave his room and Donghae will flood the house, but Kyuhyun will be too busy playing games to notice and end up drowning!’ His inner turmoil was interrupted by Donghae who had returned with the wet handkerchief. He grabbed it and softly pressed it to the man’s forehead, willing him to wake up.
“Is he dead?” Donghae asked.
“I don’t know. I did go pretty high,” Kyuhyun answered.
“No, he’s not dead,” the man answered, shifting a little on Leeteuk’s lap.
“You’re alive!” Leeteuk shouted.
“And deaf,” he frowned.
“Oh,” Leeteuk covered his mouth. “I’m sorry,” he said softer. “Are you okay?”
The man rubbed his head. “Yeah, I’m-“ he opened his eyes and stopped. He stared at Leeteuk and the latter could feel his heart speeding up.
Leeteuk stared into his eyes and felt something he had never felt before. His palms were sweating and his face was red. Was this love at first sight? He stared into the stranger’s eyes and felt like he was freefalling into the warm brown pools. He fell deeper and deeper, but never reached the bottom. He would have continued to fall if he wasn’t interrupted by Donghae and Kyuhyun.
“Hyung, why is your face so red? Are you sick?” Donghae asked, finally pulling their eyes from one another.
“Huh?” he asked looking up at the curious boy. “Oh, I’m… uh…I’m-”
“An angel,” the stranger muttered. Leeteuk looked back down in surprise and the man quickly stuttered, “Oh, I mean…. I didn’t…” the two boys laughed at him and he turned to frown at them.
“Actually he’s Teukie hyung,” Kyuhyun said matter-of-factly.
“Kyu, behave. You should apologize to…” Leeteuk trailed off, not knowing the man’s name.
“Kangin,” he said, looking directly at Leeteuk. “Don’t worry about it kid. I should actually be thanking you.” Leeteuk found himself smiling involuntarily.
“I- I mean we should make it up to you,” Leeteuk said. “How about we treat you to ice cream?”
Kangin smiled at Leeteuk. “I’d love to.”
