Holy Duck

In Rufus Wainwright's version of "Hallelujah", he may think he is saying "holy dark", but what he is actually saying is, "The holy duck was moving too." Which is absolutely lovely, cos I got myself into a class on Women in Philosophy, and it's first-world problems and depressing biographies all round and my schedule won't let me out of it, and ( Read more... )

Women in Philosophy sounds like it would be a horrible class, not gonna lie. Are their a lot of screaming ranty feminists? Because that seems the sort of class where they'd pop up both in the texts and in the students. Now that I think about it, I was looking at a similar course, and specifically didn't take it, though that had more to do with the fact that I'd read the prof's work and it made me want to punch her in the face.

Oh, it's worse than screaming ranty feminists -- I'm within easy punching her range of a girl who thinks there are the kinds of inherent differences between men and women that would affect their philosophical work. I had to remind myself I'm in college, not preschool, and kicking her in the shin at the first opportunity would really not go over well ( ... )

OMG yes, because clearly learning isn't, oh I don't know, about examining different viewpoints or anything. *headdesk* And haven't you noticed? Every woman ever is being horribly oppressed every second and you are only a good example of a woman if you not so secretly want men to die. Forget equality. ...I spent so many hours of my life in Queer Lit listening to people discuss the idea of male privelidge, and how it is assisting in the opression of women and all men *have* male privelidge no matter what they do, but paradoxically should "give up their male privelidge for the sake of females" and I ask you, if men have this privelidge (which I've started imagining as a very large hat) just by vertue of being men, then how the bloody hell are they supposed to give it up? *flail*

...My Philosophy prof told us that our minds are actually unicorns. Maybe.
