Does anyone find it spectacularly shite that the artists you love are always being praised for/are most well known for producing songs that you despise.....???
I still don't understand how you can hate There Is A Light...! Girlfriend In A Coma, far enough, but There Is A Light... is one of my favourite songs of all time! When I first listened to The Queen Is Dead, it the song that jumped out at me the most, and encouraged me to listen to the album again. It's just so beautiful! I love How Soon Is Now as well, but I personally don't think it's one of The Smiths' best songs, and it annoys me when people are like "OMG THE SMITHS ARE SEWWWWW GR88888!" when they've only heard the theme tune to Charmed or something. ASqhgewghWHGVFRAH IT'S NOT RIGHT

I will do that either later tonight or saturday - which is when I can next get anywhere near the compy because my bro is at work....heh heh I have no idea whether you would like it or not but oh well Ilike it and I like to inflict

Hhahaa, thank you! Even if I hate it, at least I am 'expanding my musical horizons'.
j\ahffhaerygj SERIOUSLY??? Not even Cemetry Gates?? Or The Boy With The Thorn...??! OR I KNOW IT'S OVER?? (Oh god, why did I miss that off my top 10? That song practically saved my life!)
Oh, fair enough... I still think it's an absolutely wonderful song, though (This Is A Light..., not Girlfriend In A Coma!!). I suppose That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore isn't really traditional 'single material', so maybe that put some kind of sideline fans off at the time?
Yeah, I know what you mean, Johnny's guitar on HSIN is fantastic! I don't know, I suppose I just don't like it as much as other songs... HGashgfsa it always depresses/amuses me when someone on MSN has their screen name as "I am the sun and air" (I almost put 'son and heir' just out of habit!), it's such idiocy!
nice post (and not only because i inspired it, ha). i definitely don't call myself a Bright Eyes fan, but i recognize a similar phenomenon with Conor Oberst. when I'm Wide Awake It's Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn came out and he was on every magazine cover with accompanying articles announcing that he was the next Bob Dylan, i puked on hundreds of pages over the lyrics journalists cited to justify this comparison. it was always seriously shit like, 'they're comin' for you / they're gonna get you!' yeah, totally reminiscent of Dylan! it made me hate Bright Eyes very very much. then, months later, Michael Stipe selected songs for a mix CD that came with an issue of Uncut and threw We Are Nowhere and It's Now on it - a song that still hardly confirms Conor as the next Dylan, but has some RIGHT gorgeous lyrics, like 'if you swear that there's no truth and who cares / how come you say it like you're right?' and 'she said this one will bring you love / and i don't know if it's true / but i keep it for good luck

william was my absoulte fave for a long long time but well thing is that I have overplayed it so its gone down in my estimation but still I cannot resist it the contrast beetween the light the shimmery summery feel of the music andthose wonderfully Morrisseyan lyrics the rain falls hard on a humdrum town indeed....damn its so good like cake in music form

Conor Oberst is the boy wonder behind the band Bright Eyes. he's 25 and incredibly prolific, having released something like 14 albums in his life (not all as Bright Eyes, though). he runs the label Saddle Creek, on which reside Bright Eyes and The Faint, and he also runs the spin-off label Team Love, on which reside Tilly + the Wall, all out of a homebase in Omaha, Nebraska. he seems incessantly at work, does all kinds of shit. he produced Tilly + the Wall's debut LP, for example, Wild Like Children. you can certainly hear his touch on it.
he has many more devout followers than me, Michael Stipe among them. me, I think Conor / Bright Eyes / etc are OK. they have moments.
i will say, however, that Conor is fucking cute as shit. i couldn't be arsed to spend too long on Google images, surely there are many better ones, but,

it prob will change a lot ya know but well Rubber soul is one of the good ones....I wasn't all tha fond of sgt pepper surprisingly....hmmm controversial everyone always says its great but I was a bit like dunno why sounds like low rent beach boys rip offs to me (apart from some songs)
I was upset that I forgot Accept yourself - ah the drums the drums....so good....
ha ha I am bordering on doing the same I love almost all his songs but well Something I find vile I'm afraid I really really really like You like me too much recently and although the lyrics are misguided - kind of sneering at some silly woman getting idead above her station....hmmm.... the bit where he sings "I really doooo and its nice when you believe me if you leave me...." is just enough to make me go all sighy and gah its so good at that moment....musical superbness simply For You Blue is gurreat too
R.I.P. George.....
i haven't heard do you want to know a secret cos I can't get the album from the library....
