I got all my Japan (the band) stuff from Amazon...last thing that came this morning was a collection of their vids on DVD...I love David Sylvian in all his girlish incarnations, so nice to watch them away from the stutter of YouTube...even though they are chrismouse presents and I shouldn't be watching them at all...
I am going to start collecting the vids I like from YouTube in here - next entry is going to be a Japan (the band) special, cos watching them through livejournal is so much easier...
Right first one is Akiko Yano inspired
She is the wife of Japanese musician extraordinaire Ryuichi Sakamoto, who is the man that David Sylvian made Bamboo Music with (boy do I love that song). And I happen to think (although noone in this house agrees with me), that she is pretty ace.
-Artist: Akiko Yano
-Song: Highland.
-Performance: Tokyo Music Festival, 1991
-The music sounds like Kate Bush. Even though she is singing in Japanese (ah the allure of a foreign language Francoise Hardy also operates on this portion of my brain) and despite the fact that she is smiling like a fucking loon throughout, it made me cry last night...beautiful stuff, Akiko Yano you are a goddess.
***
I also like this one of hers that I cannot find a name for, I believe that Japan (the band) may have had a hand in writing it.
It's so eighties sounding that it's beyond belief...But I love it so
- Artist: Akiko Yano
Matt can't get me her mp3's (although apparently he did find a lot of porn looking for it) and her stuff is so expensive since it's on import, gonna have to record it from YouTube....fuuuun....not!!!
I was also amused last night to uncover the fact that the Eric Clapton song Behind the Mask that I love so much, is a remake of a song by the Yellow Magic Orchestra, which is the band that Ryuichi Sakamoto and Akiko Yano were members of...a fucking mine of talent that band...
**
This a YouTube clip of Yano and Sakamoto playing piano together that is beautiful....they are creating this wonderful sound and completley in synchronisation....
- Artist: Akiko Yano/Ryuichi Sakamoto
- Song: Tong Poo
I keep writing random pieces of shite...are these song lyrics? Could they be considered poetry I don't fucking know...
Dependence
My own naivety appals me
The blatant way I go about
Asking for affection breeds
Revulsion that must seek a way out
It crawls over the scene sits
In frigid pools of atmosphere
I have nowhere else to go it’s
No invitation to get too near
Your brilliance astounds me
All youth puts me to shame
Stills my breathing to death
Nothing is left I’ve heard me say
You will always be so much better than me
Can we unravel together why that should be
Remaining so much more worthy than I attempt
I can only sink willing knife into my waiting flesh
To recompensate myself and my regret
Provide physical excuse for why I feel so bereft
Apologise for causing you such distress
I want away from this constant dependence
