I love pop culture analysis, I love podcasts with pop culture analysis, I love podcasts which include women's voices in pop culture analysis. So why, WHY, it is that every* women I hear on these shows (*sample size = 2) has apparently never seen any James Bond movies (or maybe 1 or 2)?? I had seen them ALL (at least all that were made at the time, except On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which I could never get through because I kept resenting that it was George Lazenby in that kilt and NOT Sean Connery) by the time I was 13. And now at the tender age of (don't ask) I've (mostly) kept up (except that last Pierce Brosnan one, since the third was so effing terrible, and the last Daniel Craig one because, while I appreciate the grittiness, he's getting a little too full of poor-James-with-his-traumatic-backstory-and-emotional-repression for my tastes). What is it, girls??? Where are the women who dig the super spy secret agent adventure??? I am all for people having their own tastes and expressing them proudly, but there are so few female voices out there in the podcasting arena, that I cringe every time one confesses to not knowing anything about Bond, because it just reinforces the stereotype that these are solely Dude Flicks, and Females only like RomComs.
Anyway, just had to put that out there. Cuz Bond is a total sexist bastard, but who can resist an evil underwater lair and a car that turns into a submarine and the whole take-off-the-wetsuit-and-there's-a-tuxedo thing???? (Although it would really need to be a dry suit if you wanted the tux to be at all presentable when you got out of the water, and dry suits do not give you the bad-ass silhouette you are probably looking for. Seriously, if you look up the antonym for 'slimming' in the dictionary, you will find a picture of a dry suit.)
fandom fun,
