“He says we have a connection.” He turns, half-laughing, half-scoffing. A connection with Sawyer. Funny. She might have a criminal background, but she was no where near his level.
He stops when he sees her expression isn’t mirroring his. A connection with Sawyer? Did she agree?
“Do you?” he asks, trying to ignore how his voice cracks or how his face gives away his insecurity. He feels foolish for even asking. She’s not his girlfriend.
“Please.” She sounds insulted, but she looks like she’s trying to convince herself. She leaves when he nods, and he watches as he loses her.
