Life after death.
Seems to be one of those things which is discussed in any paranormal / fantasy show. I'm only writing about it today because I happened to be watching Medium, the first season, on DVD at the moment.
All the big religions have laid their claim to knowing about the afterlife (or some such thing). Many have even built promises around them.
Only thing which has always confused me... if these afterlives or heaven etc are so great, why aren't more people in a hurry to get to them? I know some of the religions out there have built in anti-suicide clauses into their scriptures, but in such a case, wouldn't an average do-gooder person benefit more greatly then by doing whatever they like and never fearing for their life? I mean, they could be 'good' by all cross-cultural standards, life a 'good' (good being a representation of a pre-requisite for 'heaven' or other such places of afterlife residence)... be good and take any risks you like. If you die, what's the big deal, you're going to a 'better place'.
Would make you wonder why we (and pretty much all organisms out there) have self-preservation mechanisms built in if the place we go on to is so much better than our earthly plane.
I know this post is generalised, and I'm not trying to slam any specific religions, but I just felt like posting it. It's always been one of those logic questions that seems to pop into my mind when you combine all the information about 'the afterlife' etc.
Back to work tomorrow. Two 3-day weeks... Starting to screw with my mind. I thought today was the 3rd. Apparently my brain was convinced that a day had actually disappeared. Or I was just tired, and my watch happened to be on the 3rd instead of the 2nd.
Started advertising today for flatmates. *fingers crossed* But seeing as this is my first time ever doing a Flatmates Wanted listing, I'm not overly optimistic about my chances of getting people quickly.
