I have this little notebook which I like to consult now and then and which has proven helpful more often than not. Therein I stored facts, timelines and genealogy, taken from books and essays for an exam. It still holds many a valuable information, but I find my lack of explanations next to some words quite bothersome. Apparently, back then, I knew exactly what I was talking about.
So when I took a look at it today, I found some neat tidbits. Here's one of these rediscovered gems:
Bēot n.; boastful speech, boast, threat, promise, vow, peril, danger
The principle of a bēot is to proclaim one's acceptance of a seemingly impossible challenge in order to gain tremendous glory for actually accomplishing it. (Wikipedia)
