Okay, so somebody in Hollywood watched too much Gundam Wing and decided to make a movie based on Heero Yuy's post-war life. No, I'm not kidding you. The movie I'm talking about is "Taken", and the similarities between Heero and the protagonist of that movie are... eerie. Besides the guy having short, spiky brown hair and blue eyes, crazy attention to detail in everything he does (including wrapping birthday presents), and that social awkwardness, calm attitude and succinct speech pattern we all know and love, he's also a retired Preventer. No, I'm not kidding you. That's his official job title.
Oh, and let's not forget how that guy can take down people like it's nobody's business, and is crazy paranoid and always prepared. At least he doesn't wear spandex shorts. har har har
This movie was pinging some serious GW vibes.
The premise reads something like, Heero Yuy and Relena Peacecraft got married and had a daughter, but Heero's Preventer job kept him from spending time with his family. So Relena divorced him and married Karl (that blond, rich kid from the first and second episodes). Now, years later, Heero has retired to try and spend more time with his daughter to make up for lost time. He's done sacrificing his life and family for the good of the country. However, on a trip to Paris his daughter gets kidnapped by a human trafficking operation, at which point Heero Yuy proceeds to open up a can of whoopass on the entire antagonist cast of that movie. And when I say "whoopass" I mean "it makes me want to watch military tactical maneuvering training videos because that's how good the guy is".
He is on the phone with her when his daughter gets taken. The guy is thousands of miles away from her, but remains cool as a cucumber. And then he delivers an ultimatum over the phone to the guys who have taken her that goes something like: "I have spent years honing skills that make me the nigtmare of guys like you. Give me back my daughter, and we'll forget this ever happened, or I will hunt you down and kill you".
Yeah, way to go Heero Bryan.
And, besides the GW goggles, it's a good movie too, if you ignore the less than imaginative title. haha
My one complaint was that there was no Duo Maxwell, unless you consider his snarky Preventer buddies to be Duo. He also used a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo if that counts at all. >__>
I liked the movie even before that Heero -> protagonist link clicked, so I'd recommend it no matter what.
