It feels like I've been jerked around for this entire month.
See, right at the end of May, I bought a car from a dear friend of mine. It relieved both of us - her because she needed to get rid of it before she shipped out and me because the car I own now SUCKS. It's a '95 Honda Accord EX 2-door. It's dark green and my mom is so jealous of the color. ;)
In order to get the car, I had to get a smallish loan ($3000) from my bank. Terms aren't bad - 2 years, $145 a month, and I can pay on the principle without penalty. However, since I have more debt than I have worth, I needed a co-signer on a simple personal loan. No prob - I have Joe. For reasons that befuddle us a bit, Joe can't co-sign with me. So, instead of a simple little personal loan, now I have to use the car as collateral (and he's keeping the title til I pay off the loan). Even tho he's not sposed to do that, my guy at the bank, because it's older than a '99 and the bank doesn't do car loans on cars older than a '99. However, he'll do it for me. Ok, whatever.
So, I tell him who I'm buying the car from and - it's a small small world - they used to work together. Cool. I got to hear family histories from both sides. No prob - family is good. And I figured that this could only help things.
And then it gets complicated.
My current registration is due at the end of the month. Everyone tells me that it will be cheaper to pay this registration and transfer my tag than it would be to register this car new and get a new tag. Everyone is right. It is cheaper. But, when I go to pay it at the Richland Co. treasurer's office, they tell me that they don't give out new registrations and it will be mailed to me by the DMV. Grand - and I can't go get it myself without paying some fee (how does that make sense?? I go my happy ass to the DMV, ask for the registration for my car and I have to pay, but if they mail it, there isn't a fee and it takes longer. argh.). The guy at the bank kept the bill of sale, too - I could have driven for 10 days on the ORIGINAL bill of sale - but not with a copy. I can't get a temp tag with copies, either. Fuck the DMV. FUCK my bank. I need both to transfer a tag or to get a temp tag!
Is this all confusing?? Good, because it still is to me, too.
So early last week, I wrangled the bill of sale out of my bank, hoping that my registration would come in. It didn't, so late last week, I declared Fuck It and brought the bill of sale back to the bank. It had already been almost 3 weeks of my new car being a pretty yard ornament, what was a couple more days? I'd wait til my registration was mailed to me and give a copy to the bank guy and he could deal with the DMV.
Except...
When I went to the bank last Friday, the guy informs me that he's going on vacation starting the next day. Damn Damn triple fuck bitch ass damn! He tells me he'll leave a note with this other loan person there at the bank and I'm to give a copy of my registration to her and she'll take care of it all. No prob.
The registration comes in on Saturday.
I go to bank on Monday.
The girl isn't there. I leave copy of reg. with teller.
Tuesday girl calls me at work and asks what she's sposed to do with this paperwork. Apparently, guy at bank has completely dropped the ball and not given her my file or anything at all.
Then she tells me all I need is my bill of sale and registration and I can go transfer my tag. And that she's too busy to do it (and that usually the bank doesn't, anyway). _shit_ AND, the bill of sale is a piece of paper that I am sposed to keep, not the bank - they should never have had it! So, I go back to bank after work and get bill o' sale.
Wed. (today) I get off work early, so I head over to (what I thought was) the nearest DMV office. I walk in and tell the lady I need to transfer my tag. She says - oh i'm sooooo sorry but we don't do title work here in this office you need to go to one of the full service offices like shop or irmo to get that sort of stuff done i'm soooo sorry to disappoint you and all have a wonderful day. (And she talked like that - no punctuation and run on sentences and she had a lisp.) And then it was 4:30 pm and too late to get to any other office before it closed.
I had so psyched myself up that it would all be done and over this afternoon - I was (am) so depressed.
I am off tomorrow, so after my dental appointment at 8am, I will go over to the Shop Rd DMV and have everything done and happy and I'll go put my tag on my new car and promptly place a for sale sign on my old one! And it damn well better work out like that!!
I have insurance on this vehicle - I have since I bought it. That, surprisingly enough, was absolutely no problem whatsoever!
I want to drive my new car so darn badly!
