It's roommate Ben's birthday! I'm going to bake him
these muffins.
The last few weeks have been just a whirlwind, I tell you... I was just swept up in going home, going to see some wonderful cocksucker in Cleveland, and going to a wedding! Here are some highlights from the past month; it is up to you to decide which is related to what:
-having to wear a turtleneck or a scarf to work for a week
-an adorable little red suitcase for only $4 from my favorite consignment shop
-polkas and swing music and dance-offs
-a picnic in a cemetery (I always want to spell that "cemetary")
-lots of wine and scrabble
-various amazing diners and used bookstores
-a "Bakery & Thrift Store" (!) that actually just sold baked goods to thrifty people (wouldn't that be a winning combination, if it was actually some combination of pies and old kitchenware/records/sweaters...? What a disappointment.)
-seeing the Darjeeling Limited with pretty girls
-Linden tea (it tastes kind of like chamomile, but not as sweet and with less of an aftertaste)
-elaborate mix cds and some poems to come
-reading The Once and Future King, Dubliners, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and starting a book chronicling the collected letters of Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville West
This week I met, in person, for the first time, Erika Kellogg. She's my pen pal from second grade art class (1992, note.) We were very avid pen pals from about second grade through ninth grade, then we tapered off, then we found each other on
THEFACEBOOK.COM, then she moved to NY and now works about four blocks away from me. We had pizza, and it was a surreal experience. It's especially weird because we have a lot in common--we both studied film, we're both vegetarian, and we have a lot of books & music in common.
I also registered for GREs, and I'm narrowing down grad schools...
