Ok, so last night I went to the Ferro Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina; to see what was my favourite concert I've attended in these two years: My Chemical Romance were just there.
First, the most important: they played 20 songs (1 less than Mexico =P): 11 from The Black Parade, 5 from Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, 1 from Life In The Murder Scene, 1 from Bullets, and 2 B-sides. Setlist, don't remember the order:
This Is How I Disappear
Dead (I remeber perfectly these were the first two)
I'm not Okay
My Way Home Is Through You (I'm pretty sure about these last ones as well)
(now not in order, though I'll try)
House Of Wolves
Mama
Headfirst For Halos
Cemetery Drive
Kill All Your Friends
Welcome to the Black Parade
I Don't Love You (these two, said my father, who only knows the hits, were played back to back)
The Sharpest Lives
Give 'em Hell, Kid
Sleep
Prison
(now in order again)
Teenagers (pretty sure was played before the next)
Famous Last Words
Cancer
--Encore--
Desert Song
Helena
Another important thing: Frank wasn't there. Matt filled in for him again.
Some things you'd like to know (sorry my english is too bad ya know):
- God was really kind with us. On Thursday, the temperaure in Buenos Aires picked at 35°C (don't know in Farenheit how much is it, but it's too much in here). When I woke up, like 9:30am, it was so cloudy and I was like, 'it's gonna rain'. And when I went out of my house to take the bus (like 11:40am), it was so fucking raining. So there was a lot of cold wind, and it was SO much colder than the day before. And there was no sun =). So, when the concert started, we all (with some exceptions, a lot of people fell down) could breathe, there was a lot of fresh air. I thanked and thank God for that (even when I don't use to).
- I arrived to the line like, 12pm, it was still raining. People in line were so cool. Anyway there was a lot of boredom till the doors opened. It was a great thing, because I ended not too far from the stage, but in a place where I could breathe and the pogo wasn't too heavy. I was in (suppoused) Frank's side.
- The band arrived like 3:00pm. A lot of people just left the line to go and see Gerard closer. Then, in a suppoused soundcheck, "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson started to play. Not by the band, I mean, a recording. That was a lot of fun. Then, the proper soundcheck begun, first with Bob's drums, then Gerard began singing (and everybody screamed, he was like, doind "ooohh woooo ohhh", and it was really beautiful, his voice was in excellent shape). Then they played (like any soundckeck, sometimes only drums, sometimes singing and others not.....) four songs: Disappear, My Way Home, Kill All Your Friends, and Welcome to The Black Parade. That was great. I didn't recognize My Way Home till its end, with that specific chord that leaves a lot of tension.
- Tickets said 8:00 pm. At that time started the first support band, MCR starting at 9:40 more or less. Doors opened at 7:00 pm.
- Security was great.
- There were balloons. Black and red ones. I touched a red one.
- There were two support bands: the first one, called Vados, was heavily bootled. It is the band of argentinian ex-Bandana (a girl band, sort of Spice Girls thing, that disabanded) Valeria Gastaldi. Poor girl, there was like four bottles that fell so close to her. And there was a lot of booing and stuff like that. Anyway yes, the band was a bit of disaster, but thank God it was in a rock-pop thing (they didn't use synths, for example). Then there came a punk-pop band, now well known, called Infierno 18, who had a couple of videos ranking high in our MTV countdown. They had like, a warmer reception. Their music was ok, it sounded so much better than Vados, but it was still more punk-pop sound so...... there was more excietement, some pogo attemps, and still some bottles. Then we get angry when MCR gets bottled in Reading, Download, the Muse Wembley concert, or whatever.
- When Infierno 18 were about to finish their set, it started raining so heavily. When in line, it rained a bit, but this time it rained a lot, and a lot of time. I had to clean my glasses a lot of times. When MCR came on, the rain just stopped, it was great. And it didn't rain anymore.
- What really matters: the lights went out and the band came on. The pogo was so heavy, there was a lot of excitement, even when I was not too close from the stage. In Disappear there was no control, in Dead things calmed down a bit and, guess what, in I'm Not Okay we all were way too tired and just sang.
- First thing I notice after watching Gerard and Mikey, is that Frank is not there. In the middle of the moshing, I noticed that Matt was the one on there. A bit disappointed yes, but not enough to not enjoy the whole concert a lot. Just when it finished, I was thinking about how great it could have been with Frank. Shame he was not there.
- Mikey: he was the hottest by far. He had the hair way too long, but with a lot of hairspray or something, it was great. In the first songs, I was like, always looking at him, because he was in the centre of the stage, and in the front, and didn't let me see Bob. His playing was awesome, the bass sounded great, I don't know who says he's not a good bass player. Yep, perhaps he's not Flea, but no-one is Flea with the sort of music MCR plays.
- Bob: his drumming was stunning. The sound in general was great, but the drums and the bass sounded sorta stronger than guitars, you know. And his hair was, like...... long as Gerard had it in Helena, I'm not Okay I'd go with. So damn long, he'd need a haircut. People in front of me moved a lot, but when I could (and Gee wasn't doing anything interesting =P), I watched Bob.
- Ray: shame, I couldn't see him much. Sometimes people in from let me see him, but he was too far that I just saw a guitar and a head with afro hair. I looked at the screens in these situations (yes, there was two big screens). His solo in Prison made me fly, as always. And in Desert song, when he first started playing on his own, I just screamed, and watched him on stage, and on screens. Uh, he also played (electric) guitar on Cancer. And that was soooooo sweet, it wasn't happening from so long ago, the first promotional concerts for The Black Parade, Gerard still blonde. Uh, I didn't hear his voice at all, that's probably because we all were singing.
- Gerard: he was in a, Projekt Revolution look-a-like. He had the infamous red bandana, and a jean jacket (gulp!), which was blue!!!!! (anyway dark blue, almost black, but blue anyway). Then, his classic black jeans. Uh, but nothing written in his neck, as I could see. His hair was like in PR, not too long, but not short at all (anyway shorter than Mikey and Bob). He did all of his stupid stuff, like the boys taking off their shirts before Prison, making strange noises before Mama, and all that random stuff. Anyway, he was sorta cold..... I mean he said that he was waiting to play in Argentina, and thanked many times in spanish, but it's like..... he's tired and you take notice of this. He doesn't move much on stage. Anyway, his singing was great, awesome, so much better than normal, as I noticed and my dad said (he wasn't singing to every song as I did so he probably listened better). In one moment, he threw a cold water bottle to the audience, sometime in the first half of the show. Night was cold, but human heat is always badass.
- Matt: I also looked at him sometime (TBH, he was the closest to me!). He was like always, quiet. I don't know what happened with Frank, or if he played San Pablo shows, but tonight it looked like, they took Matt and said: so, rehearsal these songs because Frank cannot play.... he couldn't do some things, like that guitar part (a bit complicated tbh) in I Don't Love You that Frank plays (when the song goes 'Well after all this time that you still owe...'). Matt didn't play it, and I took notice, I felt an empty space. Anyway, with all the rest, perhaps there was some parts that he didn't play (in Kill All Your Friends he played Frank's part perfectly, though), but it was ok. Note he played 20 songs with the band, and probably had a day for rehearsal or 2. That's probably a bit too hard.
- James: Just one thing: He wasn't there =P. Don't know what happened, and I'm pretty sure that piano parts in Welcome and Sleep (and Cancer too, Ray played guitar but I'm pretty sure there was a piano backwards) were absolutely and perfectly sampled. In WTTBP, there was some dude playing piano on screen, but that could have been some pre-recorded part too. I mean, I didn't see any keyboards onstage, my dad didn't either (he's really tall and sees everything). There was no piano at the end of Mama, for example. So I don't know.... what happened with James =S??? Perhaps he was expensive =P.
- In one moment, someone threw a Frank doll onstage. Gerard took it, and said that: "this motherfucking punkie guy (or somthing like that) can't be here tonight........ but we have Matt, who is a LATINO!" hahaha and all the cameras went to Matt. That was pretty sweet. But as my limited english understood, he didn't explain what happened with Frank.
- Gerard learnt a few words in spanish: Mierda ("shit", he said it a lot of times after the first or second song, and it was a lot of fun), Hermanos ("brothers"), hermanas ("sisters"), gracias ("thank you"), Vados and Infierno 18 (thanking the supporting bands), and some complete sentences that I don't remember.
- During the intro of Prison, Gerard asked "hermanos" to scream, and then "hermanas" to scream. And then asked hermanos to take off their shirts, as he was doing in PR. It was pretty funny.
- Haha in some moment Gerard was just there, walking slowly through the stage, and in one moment he says "Bob can't hear you" and then everyone screams, and then "Now I can't hear you" and everybody screams. Sometime he put his hand on his ear, like 'I can't hear you', and everybody screamed too.
- When the concert began, I screamed "MIKEYYY" just because it came to my head and he was the one I saw the most. Then I screamed Mikey again sometime during the first two songs. Sometime, one girl close to me screamed BOBB!! and I did the same. Don't remember when it happened, it was in some drum solo, perhaps it was in Cemetery Drive or WTTBP.
- Also after the first and the second song, Gerard asked us plase to pick up the people who fall down or faint. Pogo was so heavy and there was no air. Sure, after he said that, everything calmed down a little.
- In one moment, Gerard said "Does anybody in here have our first album?" and everybody screamed, and I was like, here in Argentina the first album is only available as an importation, and is like, 90 pesos, when and average CD is 30 or 40 pesos. So, if all the people who screamed had the album, I don't know...... they probably got it from the internet as I did. So I didn't scream when he said so, because internet is illegal =P. Then he said "Do you wanna hear a song from our first album?"...... and yes, I screamed after that.
- There were a lot of cameras, they filmed, like, professionally!! For a DVD or so...... there were sreens, which was great. Hopefully they could put some of that stuff in the DVD, or in some TV special, who knows....... Also, there were two camera men when we were in line, and filmed us just waiting and showing our tickets. Somebody asked where were they from, and one of them said that it's just for the band. So.... they wanna have a nice memory about their argentinian fans or..... more possible stuff for the DVD!!
- One screen (the one on Ray's side) was about to fall!!!! it was like, don't know how to explain..... sorry people, I don't know...... it was just about to fall and it was funny and dangerous.
- I started singing Cancer, but couldn't do much: just started crying and couldn't sing.
- During the encore, after Cancer, I told my father "now they have to play Helena, sure...." and in the middle of the sentence, Ray began playing Desert Song, and I screamed, like, really surprised. Don't know if it's been played in Brazil...... there's some reason why I didn't read reviews =)
- I've got to say that the things I didn't understand from Gerard were the ones he said in spanish. When he thanked the supporting bands, and said "Vados" I wasn't understanding at all, until he said "Infierno 18" more properly. In one moment, he said "Dorrrmirrrr, doorrrmirrr........" ("Sleep"), but I wasn't fast and I didn't realize that it was about the song!!! When the piano chord started..... it took my by surprise, tbh. I love that song. And Gerard's voice was awesome.
- In Give 'em Hell, a pogo circle formed soooo close to me. It didn't last for so long. Like someone one said, you have a lot more of air but.......
- Ray and Gerard doing their thing on their own, during Cancer and Desert Song, was something really really beautiful. I always hated that thing of Gerard singing Cancer alone, tbh. Sometimes he sang it on his own, not even piano. But this thing with Ray is..... beautiful, awesome.
- During Teenagers, some dude with long hair and glasses played an harmonica that I didn't hear. I don't know who's the guy either, though he's a guitar tech that I've seen before the show. That makes sense, because Gerard asked us to give an applause to their crew, just right before Teenagers.
- During Helena, in one moment when everybody screamed, I just looked to Mikey: he was wearing a crown that someone threw from the audience.
- The highlights were the singles. WTTBP and I Don't Love You was a good one, everybody knew the lyrics. Teenagers-FLW was awesome, great. But Helena was like...... everybody knew that was the end, and well..... anyway I think I prefer the Famous Last Words one. Every single one was fucking jumpin, as well as in Teenagers. I felt something really special during FLW and Helena, something beautiful, that's what this band is all about.
- When the concert ended I was deaf, dumb and paralytic =P
- Now, the day after, my legs muscles hurt a lot, and it's difficult to walk. My arms hurt a bit too. But my voice is intact. I never lose my voice.
- Tonight I dreamed some stuff, but in one moment, someone in my family rented Edward Scissorhands, and I just stole it, because I really wanted to watch it. That was just because I read in a magazine that is Tim Burton's movie you'd like to steal the most. I'm really obsessed with these guys. Obviously, no MCR related.
- But then I realized: in the note that SI! section of the argentinian newspaper "Clarin" published yesterday, they said: "And then Gerard, who is a touch Edward Scissorhands look-a-like......" hahaha I laughed a lot with that.
Ok, I think it's enough, hope you enjoyed it. Don't be shy and comment!!!
