Covid-19 Updates: 5,901 Cases In My County, 89 Deaths

Mar 12, 2021 19:39

I'll be changing my updates to one every OTHER week and working out the average between the two weeks. When June hits, I'll be switching to an update once a month.

Okay--! So this week's total cases in my county now stands at an average of 150 new cases per week, and 4 deaths per week.

Of the Covid survivors among my friends, none seems to be a "long-hauler" although it was close there for a while with Patricia. Oddly, it seemed to be getting it a second time for a couple of weeks that knocked her entire system back online. There's some evidence that some long-haulers get better with a vaccine because their body, perhaps confused, finally "gets" that the retrovirus (which can hide more easily in bodily tissue than regular viruses) is an enemy and should fight it. Retro-viruses more easily confuse the body's immune system, getting it to turn against itself rather than fighting the virus. This is a problem with a lot of retro-viruses, which tend to cause immune-deficiencies much more easily. Yet another reason why I am NOT going to skip getting this vaccine!

Speaking of skipping the vaccine, I found out my cousin Rodney is going to refuse to get the vaccine, despite his obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, and being in Idaho, where masking and closing has had a mixed reception. I wish him luck. Hopefully, all the people who caught it and are now either dead or immune will work as well as being surrounded by vaccinated people!

My mother, who is 90 years old and in definite decline, finally got her first shot. My sister got her second. And several other people I know who are either animal or human health care workers have also received their vaccine. Oregon is doing much better than Washington state-- they are already down a couple of "tiers" from us, so more of my friends who are 10 to 15 years younger than I qualify for vaccines already. But we're not doing too badly here... I should get mine in maybe a month? Depending upon availability of vaccines, it shifts a little. Almost everyone over 25 should have it by May 1st here!

We've had a few very cool but sunny days here in the last week or so, and it seems like everyone is out! People were on the boardwalk, on the sidewalks, in the outdoor dining places... it's clear we're all sick of being inside and/or in private spaces only.
