First, a left-wing article that I think really cuts to the chase: people in America, even people who generally agree that global-warming is real and needs to be changed aren't likely going to seriously make an effort to do anything about it.

It was a lot of information to digest, but it ends on a positive note with the Arnold & Edwards clips. I guess I'd say the most important thing to take away from it is that the upcoming 2008 election is INCREDIBLY important and to fix this particular problem it's going to take a government that's liberal with regards to environmental protection. Liberals are good at massive-scale movements and progress made in a short period of time (Roosevelt post-Great Depression, Kennedy and the space program). I'd even be willing to shelve my usual Green Party support in favor of the election of democrats, building on the majority in congress and getting a president with focused environmental agenda.
What's strange is that it's even seen as "liberal" in this country to be an environmentalist. I mean, one of the most pastoral and conservative things I can think of is a person farming or hunting in the outdoors or breathing in that fresh air one remembers from childhood, or having the climate be the way it was for one's parents and grandparents and great-grandparents. The problem is that the other side of conservatism is being free to keep all of one's own resources and be allowed to utilize everything one works for (drive your car wherever you want as often as you please, or drill for oil in your land and sell as much of it as you want while cajoling consumers into not using better and cleaner alternatives belonging to your competitors because you believe you're entitled to make as much money as you can so long as you work for it). I think a lot of conservatives are going to feel that conflict between doing what's right for everybody else's freedom v. doing what feels right to maintain their own, particularly in the realm of financial security/wealth/use of existing resources.
