Been really busy all day...

Had a conference w/Banshee Girl's teacher today. She's doing really well in school, a BIG improvement from last year. She's a lot more social and willing to do activities hand-over-hand. She's usually in her own little world (kind of aloof and standoffish), but lately, she decided to sit in Ms. C's lap during circle time. Which is a big surprise. She's even doing independent work activities! Ms. C. is using what's called an "object cue schedule" for transitions. (Like a huge note for music or a toilet paper roll for potty time. Christina takes the object off her schedule and puts it in a container to signal the start of that particular activity).

Michael's doing a lot better too. Most of the behavior problems from last year are gone (which confirms in my mind it was the teacher, not because he was such a behavior problem). He can even put the letters of the alphabet in the right order and the numbers in the right order and he can do number-to-object correspondence. (1 coin=1). He can identify the M,h, and l in his name and sort out things by color and size. Not surprisingly, his favorite subject is math.

These are all BIG DEALS for my two because they're autistic. They're coming out of their shells, slowly but surely, and they're slowly getting the basic academics down. My sister (with 2 gifted kids) didn't understand what the big deal was (A 6 year old should ALREADY know their letters, right?)m but I'm jumping up and down with glee.

On top of it all, I'm doing well on my art projects and writing. Finally starting on my ENT/SGA crossover. Yeah, you read that right. Star Trek Enterprise/Stargate Atlantis. Believe me, this'll be a fun one to write.

Top Gear's on. Gotta run.
