writing and movies

I had a quiet, content Christmas this year, which I'm happy for. I usually hate Christmas because it sends me into a semi-depressive state. I focus too much on what I don't have instead of what I do, something I've been curbing to great effect ( Read more... )

I'm from the Carribbean, the threat of disappointing community expectations can cause me to do just about anything, including write.

Or, if you've ended up a disappointment, it makes you too afraid to go to any family and/or social functions. Americans might be polite enough to leave off when you say "I'm taking some time off" but West Indian people? Never. :P

So true. I can't tell you the things I've done in order not to have people whisper about me when I go back to Jamaica.

I know. I tried that one when I was about to graduate and my mom looked like she was about ready to beat me. The concept of privacy in the West Indies is so different than in North America.

Thanks for the movie rec. The last vampire movie I liked was Nightwatch/Daywatch. It's hard to find one that offers something different these days.

Congrats on the 250K commitment. I'll be cheering you on. :-)

I tried watching Daywatch, but I found it confusing, maybe it was because I didn't watch Nightwatch. I think I'm going to give it another go if you liked it.

I'll be needing a lot of cheering. I'm all geared up to do this, but we'll see how I feel a month from now.

Yes, I would definitely do Nightwatch first. Daywatch takes up where that one left off. I really liked the vampire mythology in those. It was something I haven't really seen done too often.

My pom poms are at the ready.

I like your resolution very much, especially if it means I'll have more of your fics to read *she says hopefully*

Looking up the film on Netflix, thanks for the rec. :)

I hope it does mean more output of fics. I have this dream of writing one one-shot a week, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I'm not sure if the movie is on Netflix yet. It just came out in the theatres. I acquired it by some underhanded means :P
