Ugh. This is not a nice topic. But we need to be aware. Prions can reside in humans for years without being detected, then they can suddenly cause the brain to malfunction. Very scary. Also, prions are not alive, so they can't be "killed." I'm sure there's a way of disabling them so they're no longer harmful, or else "reprogramming" them to do good things.... some researcher somewhere must be looking into that. Especially given our plunge into nanotechnology.
