Again, thinking about the future. Tying it in with the past. Yay. During the college days (my past), there was a strong sense of community because we lived in the same little city. Most of us were on-campus, and the off-campus folk were not too far away. It truly is a little city. It is called St. Mary's City; it was the first capital of the state of Maryland. This was in the 17th century. Later on that century, the capital was moved to Annapolis. Ever since, Annapolis has been the recipient of glorious attention from those in the Washington D.C. region. Yay. Anyhow, my college campus was and is beautiful, despite the changes made since I graduated. They made adjustments for an increased student body, which resulted in more dormitories, more classroom buildings, more parking lots, more roads being paved, more land being bought, and several safety enhancements. I did fine without those safety enhancements. Oh well, things change. So, the beautiful campus and close-by off-campus living were the backdrop for a fine sense of community. We had academic circles, extracurricular activities, romantic encounters, friendships gained and lost, plus other adventures. Through those connections we forged our community. Then we graduated, and it was lost.
Where are those connections now?
There are no more academics, extracurriculars, etc.
No more community.
I wonder if a future can be created that is similar to this thing we had in college, i.e. these on-campus and off-campus experiences. I'd love to live in such a place. Not just people of one age range...people of every age could be there. Usually with college, you expect it to be the late teens/early twenties. That's great for students. But for a community of adults who want this? They should be all ages. Ah, me the dreamer............
