Repetition Undenied
David moves from day to day, hour to hour with a flask or a bottle of liquor in his hand. Kai watches idly from the shadows of his heart, and at times within the physical shadows. Each sip, each gulp makes the teen want to grab the bottle (or flask) away.
Instead, he just pours them down the drain, down the sink and hope for the best. It never works, of course. David is too cunning, even in his drunkard state. He is too smart, too careless at times for letting Kai do what the teen does to the liquor. He only wants to drink his fill and wish the world away to leave him alone.
Kai doesn’t listen. Instead he takes part in this routine, this style, knowing that each time he pours, tosses and drains, the older man would only renew the pattern. It’s how they live day in and day out with each other. Kai doesn’t like it and inside, David doesn’t either but neither are willing to stop for the sake of stopping. They argue and fight but nothing changes. They cannot change it. They don’t know how.
David continues to drink. Kai continues to throw away. Endless, repetitive; never ending.
