Mark Knapp came up with 10 stage to a relationship. 5 of coming together and 5 of coming to an end. Not every relationship will go through the whole 10 stage..they could be jumping back and from from stages. examples: you can be in stage one and jump to stage 5 and jump to stage 10. It all depend on the person.
5 stage coming together:
stage 1: initiating - showing and interest w/ someone (this is the first stage where everyone start out with)
stage 2: experimenting - figuring our if you have anything in common. example: going on dates. talking. etc.
stage 3: intensifying - sharing more discloser and intimate
stage 4: intergrading - blending each other life together.
stage 5: bonding - a symbol that bond you together. example: marriage, rings, moving in together
5 stage coming to an end:
stage 6: differentiating - re-establish you ID (first stage of and ending)
stage 7: circumscribing- shrinking of commitment. ex. you are starting to see your life as being singles agian...or with other person..
stage 8: stegnating - nothing news, same routine repeats.
stage 9: avoiding your partner
stage 10: everything end. (game over)
soo, i think this is very true. we all bounce back and forth on the stages..does not have to be in order. (^_^) Some more stuff that i learn in speech 100 class that i think we should know....
