It's only the beginning, but
Project Soul's new venture, that is
Soul Calibur IV, seems fairly promising.
For one, I dig the definitely crystalline appearance Soul Calibur has taken, and Nightmare's new armor (which is a well-rounded combination of his 1P and 2P outfits from the previous game).
And while it is my opinion that there is still a way to go before we can assess actual gameplay, apparently the pacing seems to be rather brisk, on par with Soul Calibur III. And if I'm not mistaken, we might be also getting more evasive maneuvers.
Here's hope that Namco keeps trying and pushes the envelope even further, technically speaking. After all, they did it on the old PS2. With the new consoles, there's ample room for improvements, better physics, and huge battlegrounds.
Okay, here we go:
- Fix Setsuka. Make her less of a spam character, that would be nice. Iaido doesn't have to be about pressing buttons faster, it's about style and timing.
- Maxi! Go get 'em, Elvis.
- Additional options in the create-a-character mode. Downloadable content, too.
- Get Kilik and Xianghua hitched already.
- Also, Kilik should inflict th3 p41n upon dirty old man (well, vampire...) Raphael. It's also coherent with the ending in SCIII.
- More Seong Mi-na and Yun-Seong comedy, please.
- Keep Ivy's sword modes consistent with the previous game.
- And, get poor Voldo a fashion assistant. Or at least a tailor.
