As a newbie and a player of one, how will this affect characters who are already fairy tale characters? Would Beast turn into more the classic Beast from his tale, or would he suddenly have the urge to go blow down a straw house?

You could go either way. I play Jack Horner (from the Beanstalk and other stories) and will probably just throw him into other fairy tales roles for the fun of it.
