Home Sweet Home - Hollow Bastion to Fabled Countryside [COMPLETE]

Oct 26, 2005 17:31

At the prospect of finally returning to his own castle, Adam was practically galloping down the hallways of Hollow Bastion to get to the gummi docks. Having already caused plenty of scenes, he resigned himself to a brisk walk. For the first time in months, his heart felt lighter. Even if he and Belle only took a couple weeks for themselves, it ( Read more... )

"I need to find everyone," Adam said, his eyes fixed in the direction of the castle. His voice and body were terribly tense, as he tried to think of what to do. Belle was here. He was certain things were far too dangerous here; he felt it with every fibre of his being.

He finally looked at his wife, who stood next to him with fear blatant on her face. His next words, he knew, were going to be met with difficulty. This was her home as well, and she was as stubborn as he was, but he didn't see any other choice. He had to do this alone.

"You shouldn't be here."

His tone was blunt and deadly serious. Losing her wasn't an option.

The shock of realization past, Belle forced down her fear, and a determined look appeared in her eyes. This was home. Last time it fell to Darkness, Adam had escaped. This time... No, she wouldn't accept that. If they were going down, they'd go down together.

"Adam, I asked what we can do. Remember how the Princesses protected Hollow Bastion? Well, there must be some way I can defend our home."

"This isn't an argument, Belle!" Adam's voice raised. Fear was building up inside him, crowding any semblance of niceties. Who knew where everyone was? They could be in hiding, or fighting... or worse. Lumiere, Cogsworth, everyone. He only hoped that Maurice was in the castle as well. If things were as bad outside their ship as he felt, there was little time. He wasn't sure what he could do, but the overpowering need to protect his home and his territory overrode anything else. He was the master of this place, of these people. He wouldn't abandon them. But Belle... She was already in the ship... a few mere moments away from safety ( ... )

The sight of the strange glowing eyes outside took her back to that night in the forest, and for a flicker her fear resurfaced. Again she forced it down as she listened to her husband's command. She'd never seen him so feral, even when he'd fought off those wolves so long ago. He truly was an animal defending his territory. Belle knew he was right, and that argument was futile and a waste of valuable time.

"If I go, it will only be to bring back help. I'm not going to leave you here alone." Belle locked eyes with Adam.

"I won't lose you, either."

Adam nodded and said, "Bring Sora." For once referring to him as the Keyblade Master instead of his friend.

The number of eyes in their window had grown. And now mixed in amongst the yellow were the red eyes of the Wolf-Heartless. The time had come.

Adam gave Belle one last look, soaking in the details of her face.

Then, he opened the hatch and threw himself out into the night. Almost immediately sounds of a scuffle could be heard. Adam roared as the black beings came at him. The smaller were dispatched with ease, as he pummeled through them, focusing more on rushing to the castle than actually fighting. Within moments his sounds and form were out of reach.

As soon as Adam was out of the hatch, Belle slammed on the control to close it. Fortunately none of the creatures had the opportunity to sneak inside. She could hear the sounds of battle outside, but within seconds her husband was lost to view in the swarm of dark monsters. For several seconds she couldn't bring herself to take off. She stared at the last place she could see Adam, hoping for one more glimpse to know he was all right. But nothing was there, and the eyes surronding the ship were multiplying. She realized they were drawn to her and her heart like a beacon. Staying longer would be foolish.

Choking back tears, Belle began the launch sequence, and the gummi ship lifted into the air, programmed to make the jump to warp space as soon as it was clear of the world.
