Confusion and Questions - Hollow Bastion - [CLOSED]

Jul 22, 2005 22:15

The monster made his way through Hollow Bastion and finally found a small abandoned room. It seemed to be appropriate for guests to the castle. There were chairs, a dresser, and a made bed. He entered before swinging the door firmly shut. At last. He was alone, and though his original purpose was for peace and quiet, he now found himself wrought with endless questions. He spent several hours in this room, taking as much time as necessary to try and make a little sense out of the things he'd been told.

Did Kefka's words hold the key to his transformation? Was the evidence of darkness that he found connected with the monster's outer appearance and inner turmoil? When had the Heartless gained oppurtunity to penetrate his heart...? Aside from the worry of his wife's travels, he had been enjoying the happiest years of his life, before he was turned again. As the remnants of his old beastly personality had vanished, all of the anger, confusion, and despair had left him. He felt clean and pure and himself again. Though, it was true that on occasional sleepless nights, the freed man had looked beyond the window of his castle and dwelled on the horror he had faced for years. His gaze would fall onto his new bride and regret of his past life would prey upon his heart. Could that have been enough? Could the lingering depression have been enough to allow the darkness to sneak in...? His world had been invaded again, afterall.

Was it true? Was there darkness infused in his beastly form? "...your entire body" Both light and darkness, the mage had said. Could this explain his behavior? Was this the reason his fury threatened to consume him at the mere drop of a hat? It seemed to make a disturbing amount of sense. Afterall, what creature of light would attack helpless servants for looking at him? What kind of creature hunted down whatever he could find in his forest realm with an unbearable sadistic joy?

The more Beast threw around questions in his head, the more the grave truth began to sink in. Each denial was more and more far fetched. Every look at the evidence gave proof that Kefka's evaluation was correct. It explained the severity of his actions, the dark thoughts and desires, and the pain that irritated his chest. As he came to realize these facts, a new awareness began to take hold. These weren't merely animal instincts; these were marks of the enemy. This was the darkness he was feeling in his veins. This was what pumped his rage and destroyed his humanity.

Even though everything began fitting together, he couldn't stop thinking of Belle. How could he tell her this? It might not even be true. A part of him didn't want to give up and admit that a near stranger had figured him out in an instant. Still, he didn't want her to know. She was a Princess of Heart, owning the purest of hearts, and his was being swarmed with the very darkness she sought to destroy. At that thought, his heart twisted with guilt. What would she think if she knew? She mustn't know. He would let this kill him before he told her. Afterall, what in the world could the Council do about this? It's not as though they have a way to restore half-eaten hearts.

With an audible groan, the monster rose from one of the chairs and began to pace. What was there to do now? He could return to his own room, to be with his wife. She might be able to see the turmoil he was in. The last thing he wanted was questions. He looked toward the door from where he'd entered. He couldn't just go walking around. The last thing he needed was those goddamn eyes.... but for once he knew that their fear was well warranted. What he wanted was to go somewhere where no one knew him, where there were no rumors or questions, and where he could just exist with as little interference as possible. He looked to the ceiling and beyond to the stars. Was there a world out there somewhere that he could find peace in? It didn't matter. He wouldn't leave her. And despite the cost, he never would.
