Another Piece to the Puzzle [Traverse; Closed]

Traverse Town never did have much positive feedback.

It was home to countless refugees. People here had lost their homes and their families. Some were determined to get their lives back together. Most of the others were losing hope. Faces here tended be grim, the smiling temporary. The people were friendly enough, but it seemed more out of pity than anything else. And it was just too ironic that despite the hustle and bustle and gummi ships, and the name itself, it seemed that the longer you stayed in Traverse Town, the easier it was to get stuck.

Roxas didn't mind it so much.

People were always easy to ignore. There was a sort of unspoken agreement here; have an air of disinterest, and in return, you'd be left alone. That was how it usually worked, and it made it easy to avoid any unwanted questions. And despite that atmosphere that the inhabitants gave it, the weather was usually pleasant enough. At the moment it was crisp and cool, with the occasional breeze passing through. Besides. Aside from the weather, the stars were nice.

He never had gotten to see them much, but there was something calming and strangely motivating about them. There were many of them; countless worlds, countless options. Somewhere out there was the truth that he needed. Somewhere out there was that door that led to the reality so many were seeking. It seemed far away somehow, untouchable and intangible, but Roxas knew it was there.

He could feel that pull; that same pull that drove all Nobodies to restore their hearts. It should have been discouraging that there were so many, but it wasn't. The fact was, there was a simple beauty in so much possibility. And irrational as it was, he had a strange sense of knowing that it would be found, and that, he trusted more than logic itself. And who knew? Maybe someday, when things were a little more normal, he could visit them for the sake of visiting them instead of for the Mission.

But simple thoughts never lasted long, did they?

He had to wonder. Just how close to this goal were they? It was hard to tell. There were so many distractions, it seemed like. So many actions and words that didn't quite seem to add up to what they were after. But why? What was that point? He hadn't been there gut for very long, and already there was that sense of being used. For all he knew, he was caught up in some crazed man's game of power.

They were hiding answers from him. If they were trying to be discreet about it, they were failing. Miserably. It didn't take a genius to figure out that there was some sort of connection between him and the Keyblade Master. They both could use them. That couldn't be just a happenstance. It was annoying that he wasn't allowed to find out what it was.

After all, a Nobody with a Keyblade? He knew the stories. And somewhere, something wasn't adding up. Not that it was the only thing. He knew that girl from that dream was in the castle somewhere. It was... odd that they hadn't met yet. Not that he could do much. He was new. He hadn't earned his trust. Information by seniority, or something like that.

That sounded like more of a trap than anything, but what else was he supposed to do? There was no other place he could go. No place that he actually belonged. And how was he supposed to find things out on his own? He was no scientist, that much was certain.

They offered food, shelter, even the promise to restore him to who he was supposed to be. And in return, all he had to do was play along with their games. How exactly did one go about denying that? Not to mention that leaving would but him in some real danger. As much as he disliked the Organization, none of that seemed worth it. Not yet.

For now, he had to continue.
