Poison in your Tea [Traverse Town; Open]

Jul 23, 2006 12:11

Only when the sounds of life are muffled by the silence of your thoughts are you truly dead. These words were what swarmed in his mind, what he took to heart for as long as he could remember. It was because it was a constant reminder of the painful truth that all Nobodies had to suffer. And no dead person was in this much pain; no matter how hard ( Read more... )

While Greed was still upset, he wasn't nearly as plagued by his thoughts. But unlike a certain redhead he didn't even know, he embraced what so many others rejected. Being a homunculus, in his fine opinion, wasn't a bad thing. No, there were other things that were bothering the sin. Still, being upset wasn't going to do much to help fix any of his most recent dilemmas ( ... )

"You look like someone who just lost everything."

Axel had peeked one eye open when he heard heavy footsteps approach the small outdoor café, watching the man like a voyeur whilst he got closer. It was only until this stranger settled himself did he decide to speak, taking another casual taste of his tea to let his words sink into the silence. The redhead sat up more appropriately, releasing one of his infamous smirks.

"But if you ended up here, that's hardly surprising. Is there anything I can get you?"

Without thinking about it, Greed had allowed his eyes to close. That comment, which had obviously been directed at him, spurred him to open at least one. Whatever stranger was addressing him deserved that much of his attention, even with the mood he was in.

At first, Greed would have pinned the guy as really observant. But the redhead betrayed his knowledge being a result of experience. Whatever this place was, it seemed that people that had lost things ended up there. He took a glance around the area, eyes pinning on a few random passersby. They all looked worn out, at the end of their rope...

This stranger's inquiry brought him back, though. He turned to regard the one in the black coat, both eyes open. He liked that question--it made this stranger seem very willing to help and do his bidding. Then again, Greed was always looking for that sort of thing, so perhaps he was reading into it a bit too much.

"Maybe," he replied, tone laid-back and friendly. "What do you have to offer?"

Now that he had the man's attention it was easy for Axel to keep his benevolent pace, his green eyes lingering on the peculiar shade of violet on the latter's own. He may have been the one that offered this random act of kindness, but his own stature was, overall, more business-like in nature.

With one hand still hooked over the ceramic cup he refused to pull away from his lips the other dropped onto a nearby laminated menu on his table and slid it towards himself. Axel picked it up between two fingertips diligently, getting a good look over what was offered before idly tossing it towards the man's direction.

From the way the redhead threw it, he was either bad at it or he was purposely aiming for it to land square in the middle of the latter's forehead.

"Have a look for yourself."

"I didn't mind it," Greed replied easily. While most would have found it a difficult thing to discuss, he could talk about such things as if they were talking about the weather. "I didn't want to serve under that old hag." He'd paid for it dearly--with 130 years of solitude--but Greed didn't like to think what those years had been like if he'd been twisted around Dante's finger. "So if I'm branded? Too bad. I'm already marked."

Said marked hand continued to pick at his food. Greed didn't seem to notice the fact that the stranger had moved any closer--either that or he didn't care enough to acknowledge it openly. "I am."

"You mean with that mark on your hand?" Axel inquired when he pulled the scalding teacup from his lips to get a better look at said design. "Or are you hinting something so figurative that even I can't possibly make sense of it?"

Of course, it was all with good humor. But the redhead had been attracted to that particular insignia ever since he discovered it when this Greed decided to stroll right into the square of the First District. And as said before, Axel enjoyed knowing too much about a person.

Looking almost lazy or unamused, Greed finished off his hamburger before glancing down at his hand. He wasn't ashamed of it--not by any means. Perhaps some would have worn gloves, covered it--but that wasn't his style. Then again, most of the homunculi were proud enough to let their marks show. There were some that could be a bit more discreet about it--Envy, for one--but that was how it went.

"Yeah, this is the one," he said in agreement, lifting his hand for a moment before letting it flop down again. "But it has a meaning that could be a bit more figurative, depending on how much you look at it." The meaning behind a homunculus could be simple or complicated--it all depended on the interpretation.

Axel listened to Greed's words with a little more interest than he should've, leaning in closer to try and get a better look at it. But the angle was a little awkward for the redhead to crane his neck without it becoming obvious.

"May I have a closer look at it?" He asked as he set his teacup down away from him as not to tip it over.
