Ed sighed and went to lean against the wall of the hangar, glaring balefully at the damn ship things that shouldn't work. He was seething. How dare they treat him like a child? How dare they act as though he knew nothing? He was a scientist! He knew what he was talking about. just because in their world the laws of physics didn't apply...
And K was taunting him. Trying to make him scared, as though he enjoyed it or something. And his words last night.
He snorted. Night. Who knew what time of day it ever was in this pit of a place?
He narrowed his eyes and watched K surrepticiously, forwning slightly as he did so. The other blond touched his chest and Ed winced, thinking of the scar that had remained, even with the potions and healing. And Sephiroth had seemed shocked to see it. Maybe... maybe that had something to do with it.
He paused a moment, once K closed his eyes, glancing over at Claudia for a second before walking quietly over to the older man. Careful not to disturb him, he settled on the floor by his side, pulling out his journal and doodlin arrays and equations to pass the time. He was just going to keep an eye on him while he slept, if he was sleeping anyway. That was all.
He knew that there was a presence near him, his senses on high alert. Eyes snapped open and focused on Ed, sitting there and working on something in his journal. Was the other blonde worried about him? In a way, it pleased him.
"What's wrong, Edward?" asked K, his voice deeper than usual. "Are you scared or soemthing?"
Taunts. He knew they were, and yet they still slipped out from his mouth as easily as he Yuki's harsh words to Shuichi. That was a bit scary...
And yet no matter what, he would not take them back or apologize for them. No. He wanted to see how Ed would react.
Ed jumped when K suddenly spoke. He hadn't realised that the man was awake. His shock turned to annoyance quickly. More taunts? He snorted in disbelief. "No. I told you, I'm not scared of anything."
He shouldn't let himself be goaded into an argument.
He glares at K for a moment and then looked back down at his journal, forcing himself to concentrate on that instead of the piercing blue eyes.
In truth, K doubted that very much. After all, how could a person not be fearful of something. Hell, everyone has fears, even if they didn't want to admit it. So why was Ed being so difficult? Human nature, he supposed. Survival...just knowing one's fears was an advantage...or could lead to downfall.
"What's wrong, Ed? Don't want to talk to me anymore?"
He got onto his knees, moving close so he could whisper in Ed's ear, "I want to talk to you, though..."
Ed looked up for a second, glaring again. "You're being a prick," he grumbled, narrowing his eyes before returning to his work. He'd always been good at burying himself in books.
And then... he tensed, feeling the heat of K's body so close to his own, lips next to his ear. He shivered at the words feeling heat colour his cheeks. "K..." he managed to choke out. "Stop it!"
"Stop what?" asked K, not moving an inch. "I'm being a prick? How so? I'm not doing anything wrong, just stating my mind."
He knew this wasn't entirely true. There was no doubt in his mind he was doing this on purpose, edging the other blonde on and seeing how far he could take this. Though he was sure they couldn't go very far considering where they were...
Ed hunched his shoulders and closed his journal with a snap, shoving it back into a pocket under his coat. He glared balefully up at K. "You're doing this deliberately," he hissed. "Taunting me."
He pressed his automail hand against K's chest, intending to push him away.
"Yeah," said K, putting his hand on top of Ed's. "You're right. I am doing this on purpose, and I really don't know why. It's kind of scary...as if something's taking over me and I don't understand it."
There. That had made him feel better to say that out loud. Kinda sorta. Now the question is what he could do to deal with it, if there was something.
He supposed he'd have to find out. These things could never be easy, after all...
Ed blinked down at K's hand on top of his own. He really hadn't intended it that way. ...what had he intended it as? He was having trouble remembering.
He met K's eyes and sighed. "Right. It's that thing, isn't it?" he said, clenching his fingers slightly in K's shirt to indicate what he meant.
Well, he supposed that he had been warned, after all. K had warned him.
The feeling of a hand so close to him, even if it was a metal hand, felt so soothing to him. Judy had said once that he was a man who needed human contact to keep himself happy. She had been so correct. He craved human contact as much as he needed food. Without it, he would plunge into darkness.
"Yes," he finally said. "It's that...or maybe what led to that. I'm not sure entirely, to be honest. Or maybe I'm just losing it all...losing myself."
Ed swallowed thickly at that, K's words seeming too desperate. He was being stupid! Giving up now. He chanced a glance towards Claudia, making sure she wasn't watching too closely, and then leaned closer to K so he could speak without being heard.
"Don't be ridiculous!" he snapped. "You're still yourself. It's you in that body, you speaking now. You aren't losing yourself."
He smirked and looked at K challengingly. "Or are you giving up already?" he asked tauntingly. Two could play at this game.
Ed smiled triumphantly for a second, relief flooding his thoughts. It was tinged with worry however; K's pause had been too long. Had he actually been considering it? That was... worrying.
Ed gulped, feeling his cheeks burn again. But how could he refuse when K asked like that? He'd never been able to refuse to help someone, even when it messed with his own plans. He nodded slowly. "Yeah, I will."
Ed's brain seemed to have been taking hallucogenic drugs. It must have been. Because it was telling him that K's lips were against his... that K was kissing him... K was kissing him and that couldn't possibly be happening . Nope. Not ever ever ever. It was ridiculous to even contemplate so what the hell was his brain thinking of?
He blinked.
No. K actually was kissing him.
He stared when K pulled away, eyes gone wide and his cheeks bright red. He gaped for a moment, mouth working but no sound coming out. Finally he managed to gasp a very intelligible "Buh?"
There was a part of his mind saying that this was probably one of the worst ideas that he had. First, there was still the matter of Ed's age, despite the fact that he was more like an adult that some others that he had met. Second, there was the fact that Claudia was so close... Third, he wasn't sure how Judy would feel about him taking Ed on as...well...after all, she thought that if anything, he'd fall for someone a bit older. Convincing her otherwise might be a struggle... And fourth, there was the fact that Ed was totally in shock. K had wanted to laugh at the noise that had escaped the other blonde's lips.
But...
"You taste good," said K, licking his lips like a very satisfied cat. "You look so tasty now. Your eyes are so wide, and you look beautiful when you blush. I want to taste you some more."
He leaned forward to capture Ed's lips again. After all, Ed hadn't exactly pushed him away yet...
