Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood Picspam part 4

Apr 26, 2011 02:27

*reads Noblesse 182 while writing this post* I am loving how many panels M-21 got, yesss. And all four of them are adorable and kickass at the same time.

I also got distracted by a drabblefest that is being held over at dreamwidth for the three_weeks_for_dw fest. Check it out, leave some prompts, and write some drabbles! :D

And now, more FMA~

Episode 31

Ed helps some people fix some buildings up and learns that other alchemists also had trouble with alchemy at the same time when he and Al couldn't do alchemy, yet Scar and May were able to do alchemy at the time. Seems like it's because they use Eastern alchemy, which might open new possibilities for Ed and Al to restore their bodies. And so begins Ed's search for May (who had already left).

It's so sweet how Al dreams about eating Winry's apple pie when he gets his body back. (it also amuses me that even though he's a suit of armor, he's capable of blushing, haha)

This episode is called the 520 cen promise, since Ed borrowed 520 cens from Roy after they parted ways outside of King Bradley's door (what did he borrow them for again, and why didn't he even have 520 cens himself? Oh, but then he did just come back from Gluttony's stomach...) Ed changes his mind about returning the money and instead says that he'll return it after Roy becomes the Fürher.

With all his patients gone and his house empty, Nox then receives two visitors - his wife and his son, who he hasn't seen in a long time. He mentions to them that he recently treated two (live) patients. They're both overjoyed. Nox's son mentions wanting to become a doctor. Nox invites them in and has a quiet moment where he asks if having this much is okay.

NOX!!!! D':

This series makes me like a lot of the older guys, characters who usually don't get much focus or development in many series. But in this series, they are so awesome! And so very human.

Kimblee. He's a character I didn't pay much attention to in the 2003 version. I paid a bit more attention to him here since his name kept popping up, and we kept getting teasing images of him in jail.

But whoa. He is dressed very smartly. Very proper. like a gentleman XD; His clothes are so white too! I thought he was going to blast one of the guards right away for his smart talk, but he merely transfigured the watch (not into a bomb). What a prank.

And so the reason Kimblee was set free from jail was because they're short on staff, haha. Also goes to show how corrupt the military is if they can go and let a serial killer out just like that.

Episode 32

Ed's beautiful, horribly inaccurate drawing of Shao May. XDDDDDDDDDD Al's drawing was a lot better.

That's not Shao May! XDDD So yeah, Ed and Al's search for May continues.

So, when May ran into an old lady at the train station who helped her pick up stuff she dropped, I NEVER ONCE THOUGHT THE OLD LADY WAS GRUMMAN. Not until Roy realized it. I merely thought, oh no, who is this old lady?? Better not be someone who's going to get May in trouble!

XDDD

Without being able to find May, Ed and Al go to the library to look up stuff about Eastern alchemy without much luck. While there, they meet Selim. Who is a BIG fan of theirs.

Look at how innocent and happy he looks to meet Al! (ahahaha...)

I thought this encounter was really cute. XD; I was just hoping that they wouldn't let slip that they were looking for May (since that would lead them right to Scar and Marcoh).

Selim: You're just as short as they say!

XD;;

And then they end up at King Bradley's house, hahaha. How's this for awkward?

Bradley's wife even starts going off on a tangent about some love story between her and her husband. Ed and Al's minds must be going into overdrive!

King Bradley looked pretty pissed to have Ed and Al over at his house, but he appears every bit the kind father when interacting with his son.

While watching this part, I thought King Bradley was angry because Ed and Al were trespassing on his private life and could possibly out him to his family, but... it's really all Selim's fault. I wonder if Bradley was maybe a bit put off by Selim's actions, or if he was just pretending in front of Ed and Al to twist their minds with the stark difference between him as a homunculus and him with his family. (or maybe he was actually concerned about his wife finding out?)

Episode 33

Scar appeared all over the place, being ~flashly~ and attracting attention while toting along a man with dark hair in a cloak. It seemed very obvious that Scar and the man in the cloak were decoys for Marcoh to make his way north safely. XD; I was definitely rooting for their plan to work!

When Kimblee caught up with them and unveiled the man in the cloak...

Kimblee: You're not Marcoh.

Not even close! Poor Yoki! This looks so out of his comfort zone. XD

Scar and Kimblee fight with much resentment. Scar has the upperhand since Kimblee is still weak from having been in prison for so long. Kimblee pretty much gets speared to the compartment. When the driver comes and sees him, Kimblee actually grabs the man and demands to know why he stopped the train. (you'd have died otherwise!!!)

Very intense guy.

May and Marcoh safely make it to the north to look for Scar's brother's research.

Meanwhile, Ed and Al also make their way north after hearing from Roy (who heard from Grumman), that May was heading north. It seems that it is the first time these two saw this much snow! They also talk about how they never thought they'd travel this much, even to the north.

Before they left for the north, Armstrong gives them an intro letter to give to his sister, who's in charge of Briggs. After a fight with her men (with Ed's automail working not-so-well in the cold), Ed finally manages to give the letter to her.

Olivier rips the letter up without even reading it. XDDD;;;

Women in this series all have pretty strong personalities. (that may or may not include violent tendencies, haha)

Winry: will throw wrenches at you if you damage her automail
Maria: will slap you if you endanger yourself (though it was a one time scenario)
Riza: will shoot you down... with words, if not with her gun. XD; She can be very blunt.
Izumi: will punch you into oblivion if you do anything stupid, all the while claiming to be a mere housewife
Olivier: will kill you if you stand in her way

In front of Olivier, Edward is like a scared rabbit. XDDD

Episode 34

Miles reveals himself to be an Ishvalan, one who is actually part of the military (I cannot think of the name Miles without thinking of Miles Edgeworth from Ace Attorney... and this guy's hair reminds me so much of Shikamaru from Naruto). I think he's quite cool, and also provides another interesting approach.

Miles leads Ed and Al outside, saying that they need to work while at Briggs. They're given the task of clearing the dangerous icicles. While there, they run into Falman! Who got "promoted", but then Ed and Al go, waaaaait, why are you clearing icicles then?

Poor Falman! XD; No chance against the Elric brothers!

I quite loved how they were able to run into a familiar face! Mustang's men getting sent away came into play!

The rest of the episode was dedicated to Sloth's first appearance. Sloth is very, huh. Not what I expected. *hasn't gotten far enough in the manga to see him* He keeps going "how troublesome" here. Seems like he was given the task of digging a tunnel underground. With information from Ed and Al (who are unable to reveal much because of circumstances but ask for Olivier to understand that), they freeze Sloth and leave him frozen outside.

Episode 35

General Raven and Kimblee arrive at Briggs, with Kimblee very wounded. Miles gives him a warning. (Is that really wise??)

Right after this scene, General Raven comes in with a disturbing man with gold teeth. And a philosopher's stone.

Ed and Al hear talk about how Briggs has never been infiltrated before (Sloth is a first) but they did have a period of time when food went missing. Ed and Al immediately believe it was their master's fault since she underwent her training on the mountains at Brigg's (she was probably the culprit of the missing food).

When General Raven visits, they cook up a plan to trick him into inviting Olivier into their plans.

Plan included making him think they threw Ed and Al into jail because there was stuff they couldn't reveal. XD;

Episode 36

Family photo. Oh gosh, Hohenheim's face was always covered when this photo was shown before. Cannot believe he was crying in it when they took the photo! The flashback was quite heartwrenching. Was the photo on their wall this one??? Surely Ed and Al would have noticed that their father had tear streaks down his face in the photo?

Olivier is so confident in both herself and her men, ahhhhh. I quite loved how she always said that her men could operate even without their leader. That's quite impressive.

She also kills General Raven without batting an eye after she's forced to seal the floor where her men still were. (Her men, while in the tunnel, meet something quite freaky. A shadow? With eyes? I doubted any of them survived that)

While in jail, Kimblee brings Winry to them to fix Ed's automail so he can use it in the north. Ed and Al are super shocked that Winry's here since they're basically getting threatened! Look, here's the hostage!

Yet Winry doesn't know how much danger she's in yet, ahhhhh.

Later, Miles tries to stall Kimblee by asking him about how he was able to recover so quickly when he was so heavily wounded the last he saw him. I was quite amused when it turned out he was just stalling for time.

Back in Central, Roy meets a flower seller, who is actually part of the Armstrong family.

Episode 36.5

An ova titled "simple people". In this one, Ed gives Winry presents each time he returns home to divert her anger. He settles on giving her earrings. She is very ecstatic about them.

Al is the one who chose them, since if Ed had been given the final say, he would have chosen ones with skulls.

Ed's fashion sense is quite strange! I never noticed this before. XD;

After damaging his automail once again, Ed buys more earrings. Winry takes them happily.

Ed's just as planned face. Al seems like he might think something is off.

As they're leaving, Ed discovers that Winry pierced her ears. Again. Seems like she'd pierce her ears as many times as the number of earrings they buy her. Because she wants to wear them all! Ed yells at her for being stupid for doing that and then resolves never to buy her another present.

(I would be pretty freaked out too if she continued piercing her ears like that!)

When asked why she started wearing earrings, she says that she saw Riza with them when she visited.

At the end of the episode, when Riza is asked why she started keeping her hair long, she said that she started after seeing a girl at Resembool with long hair. Sounds like Riza and Winry inspired each other!

It was a sweet episode.

Episode 37

While fixing Ed's automail up so that it would be fit for cold weather, Ed remembers his conversation with Riza (about him liking Winry) and goes absolutely nuts over it. XDDDD Even with Kimblee in the room, hahaha. I thought he'd be more...wary? XD;

Ed tries warning Winry about Kimblee, but Winry tells him that Kimblee was very considerate, and even talked to her about her parents. (Oh man, Kimblee. What a smooth talker)

When Buccaneer comes in with his automail arm, Winry immediately goes all sparkly-eyed over it. She was quite cute in this scene. XD

Buccaneer is very pleased and even blushes... until he learns that Winry is Ed's automail mechanic. He then becomes very jealous. XD; Probably because his mechanic isn't a cute girl? XD;

Hahaha, back in Central, Roy buys the entire cart of flowers (while listening to news of the north). What in the world is he going to do with all those flowers??

Riza, while visiting Bradley's home to hand over some papers, feels a presence from Selim. Realizing something's wrong, she leaves, only to get ambushed by him. And then we learn that Selim is a homunculus.

This scene was chilling. And also made me rethink previous appearances made by Selim. AKLDJF;A

The military wants Ed to help them out (with capturing Scar and other stuff?). Kimblee looks so smug here.

Kimblee even offers Ed the philosopher's stone to help out. Ed appears swayed over this, but asks to be able to explain things to Al and Winry.

Winry finds out that she's basically a hostage. She becomes upset over having been so cheerful without knowing anything. Ed says he's going to do as the military says (which might involve killing lots of people), and in turn, they'll give him the philosopher's stone.

When he leaves, Al is relieved because he knows that they're no longer looking for the philosopher's stone, so this is Ed's way of saying that he's not exactly going to be going along with the military.

Winry decides that she's not going to sit around either. She forces herself in the car before they leave, telling them that they'll need her around in case Ed's arm stops working. Kimblee doesn't look pleased with this turn of events. XD

Episode 38

Ahhhh, Riza! She is visibly shaken from her run in with Pride. (I was pretty spooked too)

She then gets a call from Roy (he was trying to get rid of his flowers but failed) that calms her down. <3 Roy notices something wrong but is unable to get her to say more.

Ed and Al manage to shake off their guards, but they have no clue where to go to find May or Scar. Just then, May practically rushes to meet them instead. XDD Making things easy! Al tells her that they've been searching for her, which gives May the wrong impression. XD;

After their happy reunion (Marcoh included), Yoki also comes into the room and is taken aback by Ed and Al's presence. He then goes into a flashback about how they destroyed his life.

I seriously totally did not remember who Yoki was until this. Just knew him as someone Scar ended up dragging around.

Her only appearance? XD; Oh, she does appear again later. But I was under the impression that she had more scenes than this!

Anyway, Yoki? Sneaking into the Armstrong household? Are you crazy???

While separated from the rest, Scar fights two guys from the military who are now chimeras and can transform into very ugly chimeras. Very ugly.

When Ed and Al come into the scene... XDDDD They pretend they don't know the two guys!! Since they've transformed and all! Ahahaha!

Ed tricks the guy into transforming back and immediately attacks while he's in the middle of transforming. Smart. Veeeery smart. (See, you shouldn't wait for someone to finish transforming!) Ed certainly doesn't play fair sometimes, haha.

I kind of wondered what Ed and Al were planning though! Were they going to team up with Scar or what?

Anyway, while in the middle of battling Scar, everyone else comes, Winry included.

After the building explodes, Ed is the only one who rushes out.

Gasp, Winry, caught!? XD; This series really likes explaining things with flashbacks, huh...

Episode 39

So yeah, Ed rushes out of the building and starts screaming at Kimblee, saying something like, why did you let Winry out of your sight? Now she's caught by Scar!

Like I'm going to believe you, Ed. =P

Cue flashback to Winry staring Scar down. She, instead of doing whatever they thought she was going to do, helps Scar wrap his injury up. He is amazed, but she tells him that this doesn't mean she's forgiven him. Scar starts thinking about his own hatred and about forgiveness. (Winry's actions is exactly the way to stop the cycle of hatred)

Since Winry is practically a hostage, they need to get her out of there. She comes up with the plan of getting kidnapped by Scar. Miles wants to get rid of the two soldiers who would jeopardize them, but Al manages to talk them around (I loved this! Ed and Al are so idealistic about not killing anyone, but it was touching how they managed to convince Jerso and Zampano to join them)

With a storm kicking up, they have no easy way to escape. Yoki comes up with a solution of using mining tunnels. Go Yoki! XD;

While in the tunnel, Jerso and Zampano think about the families they had to leave behind because of their current body. Awwww. I warmed up to them a lot here! May also starts thinking about being very, very far away from home. )':

But it is amazing how this makeshift group of people came together!

Miles gets a call from the Briggs headquarters about how it's been overtaken by Central soldiers, so it's no longer a safe place for everyone to escape to. They have to tell this to Scar and the others somehow. Al offers to go since he isn't afraid of the cold and can bear the storm.

While on his way though, AL STARTS SEEING HIS BODY BECKONING HIM. Noooo, Al, stay awake!

(Oh, and I forgot to mention Al's "haircut"! XD; His poor ribbon got cut so short a few episodes back! And it was kept this way for the rest of the series! I guess even Al needed a haircut...)

Episode 40

Olivier arrives in Central (against her wishes, but she makes it seem like she has every intention of being here). Roy welcomes her, tries to invite her to dinner (but she says only if he'll allow her to make him bankrupt). He then tries to offer her flowers (oh Roy, you are never getting rid of those excess flowers, pft).

In the privacy of the bathroom, Roy tries to decipher the code Riza spoke in while they were in the cafeteria. The message was that Selim = Homunculus.

He then burns his notes. (though I kept feeling like even with notes burned, they could be put back together. or am I thinking Harry Potter??? XDDD Haha)

The next part of the episode goes waaaaay back, and instead talks about the dwarf in the flask (I thought this way of referring to him was awfully cute). Though it is quite a disturbing little thing.

<3333333 Young Hohenheim! Oh gosh! He was quite different when he was young! And a slave??? Without a name??? He got given a name!

I looooved how he was introduced! The dwarf in the flask just started talking to him, and he answered back without much alarm.

<3333 (It wasn't until this episode that I finally knew who I'd been seeing in the openings and the endings, hahahaha)

Hohenheim and the dwarf in the flask talk about stuff. Greatest desire and all. The dwarf in the flask muses that it'd like to get out of the flask.

They seemed quite comfortable with each other. If only things stayed that way.

He looks awfully cool. And his history is!!! *starts fangirling him*

He gets taught alchemy by the dwarf in the flask, and then Hohenheim brought it in front of the king of Xerxes? To help the king achieve immortality?

The dwarf in the flask (Homunculus) had other plans though, and instead of making the king immortal, Homunculus made Hohenheim immortal. By sacrificing all of the people in Xerxes.

Oh man. It must have been traumatizing for Hohenheim. D:

Flashback over, we're brought to the present again. Hohenheim meets Izumi and Sig and helps Izumi arrange her organs better so she doesn't keep hurting and splitting blood. They are amazed by what he can do and asks who exactly he was.

Hohenheim answers that he's a living philosopher's stone.

WHAT.

(though, with that many souls inside of him, that is an apt description! still... Ed and Al went through all that trouble looking for the PS... ah, but then, the philosopher's stone is pretty much everywhere in this series. Nothing unusual anymore...)
